I think the biggest different will be the auto focus both in Film and photography. When I tried the R6 I found it very slow.

Hmmm that’s interesting, using both camera’s back to back I didn’t notice any speed difference. You can manually adjust the autofocus speed and responsiveness, I know for myself I have speed turned way down in video mode for smoother transitions, I wonder if one body was set different to the other.

I know this vid is from a while ago, but maybe you can answer this. Would this bag be enough for a 4 day trip? Camera gear: 1dx mark ii, 16-35, 17-50, mavic pro, batteries for all that, cables for macbook pro, chargers and adaptors, dji mic with case, gorilla tripod, and 4-5 sets of clothes? Or would you get an extra carry on/small checked bag
@JasonPischke
@JasonPischke Күн бұрын
Of course! Still my main camera bag, going on over 3 years now! I would probably recommend going the small carry on or checked back route for a couple of reasons. The camera gear fitting is no problem, but to fit 4-5 sets of cloths is going to be really tight fit. The clothing compartment does have a zipper section that allows it to extend, but in doing so the bag will be oversized for any overhead bin or under the seat and I personally would rather show up with two bags and know my camera gear is safe and with me and not be forced to check it under the plane. Hopefully that helps!!

Hello, I was looking for budget camera for our company, and found this video comparison. I think R6 is great option, but for budget do you think the R8 or R is good options for school that is including daily shootings at school environment and events? Do you have any advice for looking up for other cameras cheaper than R6?
@JasonPischke

For a school or learning environment I think the R8 would be a fantastic choice. You are getting full frame performance, great dynamic range, the menu system is easy to learn and navigate, the camera should be more than robust enough to take years of abuse. It is a great camera in a compact package. If you are looking at camera's in the R8's price range, I highly recommend it!

Hey Jason, great video ! I might just be a big noob here but, I do not understand how to convert Clog3 BT.709 to Rec 709 (using Davinci) could you explain to me how that works ?
@JasonPischke
@JasonPischke 7 күн бұрын
Sure thing, so when we are looking at the format there are two different conversions that you have to account for, the gamma curve and the color space. In your case, CLog3 BT.709 is telling us that the footage is already in the BT.709 color space, which is what we want, but is also in the CLog3 gamma curve. Knowing this we do not have to do a color space transform since you are already in the desired color space, but you are going to need to do a CLog3 to WideDR conversion to get the gamma curve out of Log. For this you can use a CLog3 BT.709 to WideDR LUT either from Canon or one that is already built into DaVinci to make that gamma conversion. Hope that helps!

What would you choose between iphone15 pro and sonyaiii ?
@JasonPischke
@JasonPischke 7 күн бұрын
This is a bit of a tough one. It sort of depends on your current phone, like I have an iPhone 14 Pro and don’t need to upgrade to the 15 Pro since there is such a small difference in photo quality. The Sony is going to give you the most flexibility and the best looking footage and photo’s, but is way more expensive and is much more complex when it comes to just grabbing a quick shot, editing and positing to social. I don’t know your needs, but if you want something to quickly snap a photo or video and post to social, the iPhone 15 Pro, but if you want your photos to have more of a professional look and don’t mind carrying around a camera, purchasing lenses and doing post production, the Sony is going to have the best quality image out of the two!

Thank you! I'm learning a ton I just started using Davinci and a Canon R5C I'm working on converting footage shot in BT 709 without my blacks being crushed, I'll shoot in log 3 with and cinema gamut moving forward. Any ideas for the footage I have already shot?
@JasonPischke
@JasonPischke 9 күн бұрын
Unfortunately footage shot in BT.709 is going to be limited to around 5.2 stops of dynamic range due to limitations of the video standard. This means that if your blacks are crushed in camera, trying to expand it back out to a wider color space is not going to give you much of a benefit. The R5C is a beast of a camera though, if you start shooting in CLog 3 and the CineGamut color space you will see a massive bump in color and quality!

@JasonPischke
@JasonPischke 10 күн бұрын
Not a problem, there are a few simple solutions for that. The first and simplest would be to roll in a bunch of shutter until the image is properly exposed. You can also set the shutter to auto if you would prefer the camera to set it automatically. The second option is to use ND filters to limit the amount of light hitting the sensor, this is great if you want to still have a low shutter speed, but keep the image properly exposed. In your case I would set the shutter to auto, set the iso to 100 and you should be all set to go!

Haha yeah I don’t really understand the grey border. It appears on the R8, R7 and R10 which all came out around the same time, but the R3, R6 Mark II and upcoming R5 Mark II don’t have it so it doesn’t make a ton of sense. Maybe they were testing something, maybe it’s just an aesthetic choice.

Thanks for the great video and hoping someone can help me out here. It was impossible for me to get the pan correct without moving the camera slightly away from the motor. I then had to readjust the tilt slightly but finally got it. Calibrated the gimbal and all good, but whan I am using it the camera does want to slowly wander off to the left or right. Is this normal and I need to practice with my wrist to control that or is further calibration required? Cheers
@JasonPischke
@JasonPischke 9 күн бұрын
I would first monitor the motor power to make sure the pan axis is not using excessive power. That is a sure sign that the balance is off. If the power level for the pan axis motor seems normal, you should have the proper balance. You can also try dropping the sensitivity for the pan axis which will allow you to move more without the motor reacting. Let me know if any of that helps!!

at the same time if you still flood your camera, it is not a warranty case, despite the protection from atmospheric influences. if you need real protection, you need to buy special cases, which is what all professionals do who are engaged in shooting in different weather conditions. and from light rain and dust, nothing will happen and with cameras that do not officially have dust and moisture protection. My friend has been shooting on a Canon RP for 3 years, both in winter and summer and in the rain, and everything was ok. as well as the second slot - not a single flash drive has broken in 10 years of work. but the difference in price between the two devices is quite significant.

@@abercrombie2684 Seals vs no seals on body and lens does make a huge differance when photographing in harsh conditions. There are many times where ive gotten shots simply because ive trusted my equipment. Those shots would not have been possible if its wasnt for the weather sealing. As for the dual card slots, if you're not making any money from shooting events, then theres no need for an extra slot. Imagine shooting a wedding and having a card fail on you. That cant happen. I personally find the R6 more comfortable than the R8. It has a larger grip and supports battery grips from canon. They are made for different audiences. Theres no right or wrong answer here. Every camera has its flaws.

Agree, those are two things that if you need them, it’s a non negotiable. The majority of people buying these camera’s will probably never need the weather sealing, but personally I enjoy the peace of mind it gives you and I am more willing to take my camera out in harsh conditions. The second card slot, I personally rarely use it, but like you mentioned, for a wedding photographer I couldn’t see them using a camera body without 2 slots.

What are you shooting, bro? A Hollywood blockbuster or something? What could you possibly miss in a camera that has ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING for comfortable work. The sensors haven't gotten much better. Autofocus, yes. If you can't take good pictures with such cameras, then it's clearly not the camera, dude.

From what I have read it seems like it will be another incremental update. Sounds like the sensor will be a variant of the sensor used in the R3 which has nearly identical dynamic range numbers compared to the R6 Mark II. Maybe the Mark III will get 4K 120p, but honestly I rarely find myself needing anything over 60p. Yeah, honestly I feel like there will be very little reason to move from an R6 Mark II to the Mark III. If you find yourself needing a massive step up in quality, saving up for the R5 Mark II would be the more worthwhile investment I believe! Hope that helps 😊

I am not super familiar with the C200, but from what I have read it sounds like Canon may have not included CineGamut with the standard .mp4 recording mode. This may be because in .mp4 the C200 shoots in a fairly low bitrate as well as in 8bit. There might not be enough data to properly capture all of the color info needed for CineGamut. On our C300’s you can change the gamma setting by going to the Custom Picture menu, selecting “Edit CP File” and then scrolling down to “Gamma/Color Space”. If CineGamut is not available under that menu, then sadly it was probably was left out by Canon.

They also can work well by stacking at lower opacities if you want to combine elements from each one. Have you tried using the "Touch & drag AF" feature to set focus point? If you set it to relative and right side of the screen (AF menu 4), it lets you use the half of the screen under your right thumb as a track pad to move the autofocus spot while you're looking through the viewfinder. It took me about five minutes to get used to, and it's vastly quicker to nail focus than even using the joystick on the more expensive bodies. As for the controls, I've pretty much moved to shooting Manual + auto-ISO almost exclusively. With AI noise reduction in Lightroom and the superb low light performance on the R8, I have very few qualms about letting the camera boost ISO to what would have been ridiculous levels even two years ago. That lets me use the index finger dial for shutter speed, the top dial for aperture, and the control ring on the lens for exposure compensation. Having another dial would be nice, but it's a perfectly acceptable compromise to get a travel body this small and capable. Honestly the only thing I don't like is the battery life. You give up some of your weight savings by always having to carry two or three spare batteries to get through the day. On the plus side, you can charge in the camera via USB-C so you can get away without hauling along a battery charger assuming you're carrying a spare power pack (which most of us do anyway).

Very good solutions and insight! I used the touch and drag briefly with my R6, but that would be an excellent solution for the lack of physical joystick. I find myself using aperture priority a lot when shooting day to day, leaving ISO set to auto would being a good compromise. The enhanced noise reduction in Lightroom is insanely good, I also felt the high ISO photos I was getting from the R8 were already very clean so it’s a great combo! Appreciate the insight and real world knowledge from someone who has used it for an extended period of time already! Thank you!

I think you will be happy with an R8 for occasional sports and wildlife photography. I didn’t notice the rolling shutter in my shooting with it. The 6fps mechanical is on the slower side, but still very usable in sports and wildlife. If you aren’t shooting something like tennis, golf or something really fast paced, you should be able to get away with using the electric shutter and get 40fps. The autofocus, fast mechanical shutter speed, ergonomics, that all would make it a pretty good sports camera in my opinion.

The O4 Transmission system used for the Mini 4 Pro works similar to how WiFi works, but uses proprietary hardware on the drone side and controller side to more efficiently encode, transmit and decode the video signal. It also a dual band system, again sorta similar to WiFi and so if there is a lot of interference in the 2.4Ghz or 5.8Ghz frequency bands, the drone can automatically fail over to a cleaner channel. DJI drones do still utilize satellites, but it’s more for hovering and positioning. If you have ever flown a drone inside without satellites you will notice that when you let off the sticks, the drone will drift and won’t hold position well.

@@JasonPischke I agree, that's why I brought the battery grip on Amazon so I don't have a problem with batteries, it actually lasted a long time.

Hello Jason. Thumbs up and subbed. Quick question for you. I'm a new photographer, and I currently have a 50mm RF, 85mm RF and a 24-105mm *which I'm looking to sell. Shooting style is mainly portraits 95%. I do need a wide lens. Should I spring for the 24mm? (All non L lens) tks! Greetings from Bawwston. 🤙

Appreciate that!! Man, that’s a tough one, I love the 24mm but it can feel a little wide at times, if I wanted a lens to complement a 50mm and 85mm, I think I would probably go 35mm. It’s such a versatile focal length for capturing, portraits, street photography, travel, some landscape work. I have a video on this channel about it if you want to see some examples, but I think that would be the lens I would go with! Since you have a 24-105mm, use tape of something to lock the lens at 24mm and shoot around, then do the same at 35mm and force yourself to try out the two focal lengths and see which one you like more! Hope that helps!

@JasonPischke hey. Thanks for the quick reply. I'll definitely have to check out your video on the 35mm. I was also looking at this lens as well. But since it's so close to the 50mm. I'm on the fence to selling the 24-105 for the 24mm but now you have me thinking of getting the 35mm. Thoughts?

Also wanted to add that I'll be looking to get into Real Estate. (In the future) 35mm cover indoor shots? Paired with a DJI RS3 mini for video.

@@armani007E55 With real estate you are going to want the widest lens you can get your hands on. I would start out with the RF 15-30mm f/4.5-6.3 and then upgrade to L-Series glass if you find yourself getting a lot of work in the field.

Thank you Jason! I have not found any other video that explains the canon log formats and color spaces in such clear concise way. Now I can make an informed decision when selecting the right settings in my Canon R6

That’s amazing to hear!! It’s challenging because there is no such thing as the perfect settings, hopefully knowing why you should use one profile over another you can get the most out of the R6!

Thanks for sharing, I have one question. Would you say it is an issue to use RF 28 F2.8 together with Canon RP which has no in-body stabilization?

I guess it kind of depends on your needs. If you are shooting during the day and need a small, light, walk around lens for photography, this little guy will be just fine. If you want to shoot video, or shoot in darker environments or at night, having no IS at all could be a bit tricky.
