Thank you for this video! Have you ever tried the countertop paint kits? They're quite expensive, it seems. Wondered if they're worth it. Probably not if the marine paint you've used works so well, as you've experienced.

Didn’t really want to spend the money since all it is a bunch of paint you can just buy separately and we were going to get the counters switched out soon. But it has been temping! Thanks for watching.

People that are actually serious about doing this use epoxy or just replace them, there is no in between, especially if you intend on selling the place.

@@OurClassicHome You saved yourself a lot of trouble! Even with that, you can't keep things too hot and such! (Provided it is still a lot more durable. Just picking up a new laminate set to keep cost low is the most sensible option. The fake quartz stuff has a similar issue with heat as well. If I owned the place, butcher block would be the direction I would go, easy to take care of being wood. Cutting it to fit would also be straight forward provided the walls aren't a wobbly mess, and it's middle ground in terms of cost. There are vinyl wraps as well, but the problem with that, just like painting, there's a learning curve to applying it! In my case I am looking into this for bathrooms, the only option that stands up to chemicals is wraps. It's easy to apply, and you can caulk all the ends to completely seal it off and make it look professional which is a bonus.

This is also worth noting, a lot of these video of people throwing money at these products strategically targeted at consumers and not professionals (I'll leave that as food for thought) If the countertop is that old, the lighting in the house is likely that old too. A lot of the newer homes have multiple layers of what makes them look like they do.

The undercoat is less important, so make it pretty, add some pearl mica, light sand white scotch pads to expose the mica, , add a urethan clear top coat, its what they use to coat industrial concrete floors because its ultra hard scratch resistant. The oil based urethane is more durable, but not as easy to handle, but less coats required.

We already swapped it for laminate but we did get some transfer due to our socks. But that’s because (like I’ve mentioned to others in the comments it’s because I used too much dye. So add s bit of the dye and test a spot inside of a closet or something. Too much dye tends to just become residue.

@ourclassichome ouch! I had a room with ceramic tile, the contractor used padding on that room. The laminate had pre-installed padding, so it wasn't needed for the rest of the house. I bet you're happy to have it done. I love my new floor as I hate carpet. The next thing you absolutely must buy is one of these vacuum mop robots. I recommend the Dreame L20 ultra. Also there's a product called "QuickShine" ($9.99), that temporarily makes your floors shine like glass. It's super easy just mop 3 coats. I use it when guests are coming over. Congratulations on your new floors.

A two part epoxy is the way to go . A paint tray and better quality brushes and rollers will make your job better and much easier. You are much better off doing multiple coats rather than one or two really thick coats. You can see the rippled orange peal look in your finished counters and this could be eliminated.
