Neither I nor anyone in my family has ever been LdS. My wife and I moved to Utah in 1982. When we moved back to the Midwest in 2007, I thought I understood the LdS Church to teach that the Hebrews who are descended from the southern kingdom of Judah/Judea will someday be reunited with the descendants of the northern kingdom of Israel but that, in the meantime, the people who are descended from the inhabitants of the southern kingdom aren’t part of true Israel. (It was never clear to me whether the LdS Church teaches that descendants of the southern kingdom can become Israelites now through faith in the Redeemer.) I think this video is likely to give the impression that the LdS Church teaches that the “gathering of Israel” is the return of Hebrews to the modern political nation of Israel in the Middle East. That idea seems antithetical to what I thought I understood from my many conversations with LdS while we were in Utah and reading several LdS books while we lived there. Can somebody please explain this in a way that is understandable to a protestant? Whoever attempts to answer my inquiry, please tell me whether you are a member in good standing in the LdS Church and, if so, for how long you have been a member. Thanks.
