Most Trump supporters that I have seen don’t know the name Timothy Snyder, nor do they have even an inkling of what he is saying- yet he speaks often, and is available for free on KZbin. Why? Somehow the media space is fractured and something like a watertight hatch exists between them. How do we get Timothy Snyder to speak to a Trump rally? Ideas?

It’s amazing to me it’s alarming that a representative of the surveillance state calling for suppression of free speech and weaponizing section 230 is being platformed by the John Adams institute.

Interesting to hear the question about Chevron -- when it seems that the conservative bank of the current court is on the very urge of discarding Chevron completely (to the betterment, IMO). The congress has been LAZY with regard to writing legislation. It's up to them to legislate PRECISE laws, rather than vague laws which are then clarified by bureaucrats.

And history wasnt over, not even by marxists standards, just because Gorbi capitulated and the USSR went extinct. Now i pause and wonder, from a japanese point of view, could it have looked like as somekind of history ending? Some chapter ending? When those things came to pass.

Really good talk. A bit of a shame that he has to waste his time explaining why Shakespeare was Shakespeare. Maybe if these conspiracy theory Muppets could just go away and do a bit more reading instead of browsing online, that would save everybody a lot of trouble.

KSR is perhaps the George Bernard Shaw of our time. Whilst he discusses using fiat capitalism to fund green projects, I am kinda surprised he doesn't use words emphasizing the need to place values on pricing & preserving the natural capital of our environment, though his theme does embrace this concept.

If you have an education and a working mind there is no damn way to actively “believe” the crackpot racist sexist ignorant mishmash that RELIGION has become. Good ole Hitch leads the way. Just quit the cults. I did it. I threw off the yolk and stepped into the light of truth. I hate those old desert religions-Christianity Jewish Islam. What bullshit. The current slaughter in Israel is perfect example of this crap. If a miracle happened and the Jews and Arabs renounced their religions then maybe they could stop killing each other.

Read Atheist Delusions: The Christian Revolution and Its Fashionable Enemies by David Bentley Hart. Hart criticizes New Atheism for being “as contemptible as any other form of dreary fundamentalism” because it “consists entirely in vacuous arguments afloat on oceans of historical ignorance, made turbulent by storms of strident self-righteousness.” Hart's says of Hitchens that he "is the most egregiously slapdash of the New Atheists, as well as (not coincidentally) the most entertaining, but I take this as proof that he is also the least self-deluding. His God Is Not Great shows no sign whatsoever that he ever intended anything other than a rollicking burlesque, without so much as a pretense of logical order or scholarly rigor. His sporadic forays into philosophical argument suggest not only that he has sailed into unfamiliar waters, but also that he is simply not very interested in any of it. His occasional observations on Hume and Kant make it obvious that he has not really read either very closely. He apparently believes that Nietzsche, in announcing the death of God, literally meant to suggest that the supreme being named God had somehow met his demise. The title of one of the chapters in God Is Not Great is “The Metaphysical Claims of Religion Are False,” but nowhere in that chapter does Hitchens actually say what those claims or their flaws are. On matters of simple historical and textual fact, moreover, Hitchens’ book is so extraordinarily crowded with errors that one soon gives up counting them." (www.firstthings.com/article/2010/05/believe-it-or-not).

The speaker doing the introduction did a thotful, analytical talk. It was longer than we do it in the US. I enjoyed it because it was different and detailed. It's only about 13 minutes. David was in a foreign country, not the US. Not everyone there knew Sedaris as well as an American audience. That's how they do it. Get over not liking it. You are not in Kansas anymore.

Historians are not Political Activists; Timothy Snyder is in the same mold as Nikita Khrushchev, a Soviet Political Commissar who served during the Great Patriotic War. I have gone through the entire Snyder Series of Yale Lectures on the origins of Ukraine, and 90% of the time, he is talking about the History of Poland and Lithuanian and not of Ukraine and skips significant portions of the History of the Region; he keeps on mentioning Ukraine, Ukraine, Ukraine, the Ukrainian Cossacks instead of the Zaporizhzian Hetmanate. I cannot find a reference to the word Ukraine in any historical texts until 1918-1922. It seems Ukraine never existed as a region or nation until 1922. He barely mentions the Peraeslav Treaty between the Zaporizhzian Cossacks and the Russian Tsar, which had a profound impact on the Cossack Hetmanate, as this, with the siding of the Hetmanate with the Swedish King against The Russian Tsar during the Great Northern War led to the destruction of the Zaporizhzian Cossacks. There is nothing in the treaty of Lubin mentioning Ukraine. So his work is just Revioinist or Woke. We see that Ukraine pays him to rewrite the History in the vision of the current Government of Ukraine. So Political Commissar and not a Historian. Robert Mosci’s Work at the Monk Center at the University of Toronto is the go-to book on Ukraine and Central Europe.

What a delightful and insightful talk by Tom Wolfe. I learnt so much. He is sooo right that the growing immorality of sexuality in recent times is causing incredible amounts of misery and societal instability. This talk is 18 years old and he has proven to be prophetic because the woke movement (born in the universities) and metoo now dominate, producing craziness, the devaluation of marriage, infants being encouraged to change sex, kinky sex being taught in elementary schools, and general all round depravity being encouraged even by the so called authorities. Good point about how Paris Hilton became a celebrity. Her friend Kim Khardashian took the same route, a pornographic sex tape making her famous!
