The volume difference is so annoying. Guys mumbling questions next to the lady answering in a normal sound.

I'm sorry, but I didn't like it. We could have gotten much more craft information about the screenwriting if they had asked questions about this, but there were questions like whether it was a restaurant or takeaway.

Like your content, but what’s the rationale (if any) for putting your guests and yourselves in a tiny postage stamp size window rather than use the whole screen? Is it supposed to be “arty” or what?
@JosephMortillaro24 күн бұрын
"Yeah, no." That expression is appearing everywhere. "Yeah, no". An odd phrase. Peculiar thought connection.

Many (most) will have outlines, notes, early - very short - drafts, for other projects. So working on one (or more) of those is probably the best way of keeping your writing going, in a constructive way while being ready to edit, improve, redraft the ms that you’re waiting on, whenever they get back to you.

I read Best Served Cold over this last summer...and hearing Joe talk about his struggle to write that book, which to me read so smoothly, is astonishing. Speaks well to his craftsmanship and echoes that famous line, "Easy reading is damn hard writing."

Also isn't it basically untrue? Literary agents are all pretty much swamped with 1000s of submissions every year? So in truth, right now, NO ONE is looking! In addition there are endless prizes and open calls already. Soooo...
@pageonepodcast2 ай бұрын
Isn't what untrue? Agents are swamped, that is true - Clare confirmed in the interview she gets 3k subs a year. But this is a different route to getting an agent's eyes on your work - and arguably a better way of doing so than the slushpile as there will likely be fewer entrants. There is obviously no obligation to enter, and if you don't like it, that of course is fine! But if you have a suitable novel, what is the drawback? These are extremely reputable agencies with successful clients.

So much waffle. Makes me wonder how much they really know or appreciate about SF. I mean romantasy. Bandwagons, anyone!?

Never, even enter a "writing contest:" damn near all of them are scams.
@pageonepodcast2 ай бұрын
That may be, but this is a competition run by two of the top agencies in the UK and US, so out of all the competitions, this one may be worth consideration at least.

I read the book of lost things, chiefly because I wrote a book called The world of all things lost and I was curious to se what John Connelly used such a title. It was a fascinating story. It had some dark parts and there was a disturbing section that I will not explain here, but on the whole it was a good read.
