The ”how does it work” slide was interesting (at least for a cell biologist like me), with all the activation and inhibition, directly or indirectly, on specific steps, including effects on transcription … But, my belief was that the main thing is as an alternative fast way to drive ATP synthesis, when oxygen and respiration cannot keep up the need, a better alternative to fermentation (which may be fast but with low yield, and lactate accumulation) … but here you present a range of other mechanisms … I need to study it seems

I am looking forward to this video. Hoping you can address the problems I encountered when starting with creatine last week. First I got terrible constipation (never a problem before, on a healthy keto diet) and after a few days I got terrible liver pain, radiating to my back. Stopped supplementing creatine and everything back to normal. Reason for taking creatine is to enhance muscle growth, which is a thing because of sleeping disorder. Would welcome your advice.

Try using a high-quality creatine monohydrate. Creavitalis® is the best option considering its purity, solubility, and effectiveness, which might help avoid the side effects you experienced. Always consult with a healthcare professional to assess individual responses.

Just use high grade creapure...its a Standard from Alchem and should be written on every bottle. Faked Powder from different country's can make problems...so make sure you buy just Creapure

I’ll be 65 in October and I’ve been taking Creatine daily for 15 months. I began weight training again 30 months ago, after decades away from the gym. I’ve found that 4 grams of Creatine daily is the optimal dose for me. My strength in various lifts increased by about 10% after a month of use. I prefer 4 grams because 5 grams daily elevated my serum creatinine above the normal range.

Thanks for sharing your personal experience! You should consider that amount of creatinine in the blood is related to muscle mass (i.e. males have higher blood creatinine than females) and dietary creatine intake. Both blood and urinary creatinine may be increased by ingestion of creatine supplementation and creatine containing foods, such as meat. These transient increases in blood or urinary creatinine due to creatine supplementation are unlikely to reflect a decrease in kidney function. In fact, a new Mendelian randomization study offers compelling evidence indicating that creatine levels are not statistically associated with renal function (pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38874125/). These new findings alleviate concerns within the fitness and general community regarding creatine supplementation as a trigger for renal issues. In 2019, Da Souza et al. also demonstrated in a meta-analysis that creatine supplementation does not induce renal damage in the recommended amounts - 0.1 g CrM per kg of body mass daily (pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31375416/).

Quick update. Now at 77 I continue to do well on 2 g/day. Creatinine hovers around 150, but no other side effects. Cramps are minimal. Still doing lots of pull ups and 2mos ago on my 3rd set of 10 reps, at rep 5, I felt a snap in my right shoulder along with some significant pain. My right bicep long head tendon tore loose from the glenoid in the shoulder. Visited my Ortho and he said no action required. Two weeks later, I started doing pull ups again and 2 months later I was back to doing 10 rep sets. The bicep does have a different look (look like Popeye), but as that part of the bicep atrophies, it will go back to a normal look. Other than that, all is well.

I wish I could take this shit, but being the fact that I was cursed with poor kidney function , I can't. If you are at Stage 1 (or more) stay clear of this shit. kidney disease is growing in North America at an alarming rate, get your eGFR (estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate) if you are taking Creatine, moat can take it with zero downside, but if hour kidneys are not functioning properly, this shit will further fuck them up.

Why don’t you have a clinician who is a nephrologist weigh in on this topic ? PhD’s have no clinical experience they do not treat patients and see the clinical issues that may arise from older individuals taking creatine . Nephrologist warn older individuals not to take creatine because its strain on the kidneys . Urologist and nephrologist both caution older patients from taking creatine. Physicians see the clinical side in blood work and the clinical picture they see in their patients . If you do not have actual clinical experience how can you comment on the end not have actual day to day clinical experience from working with actual patients you don’t see the long term end results .

Severe muscle cramping. For what it’s worth, I’ve taken creatine monohydrate three times from different major suppliers. The first two times, I took 5g (no loading), but I had severe muscle cramps after a month or so. I researched more and could find very little info about creatine creating muscle cramping, only that it didn’t cause it. I also found that lower doses were often as effective, so I took 3g/day on my third try with another supplier. Same result. Severe muscle cramping, mostly in my legs, and I mean severe. Since creatine was supposed to be the most researched and "safe" supplement, I think that I’m done with supplements, especially since, if one was actually effective without negative side effects, you never know what’s going to be in the container next time.

I've been taking Creatine for close to 4 years. Until 6 months ago the dose was about 5 gms. After listening to other presentations on Creatine and older people (I'm 70) I decided to up it to around 8 gms. I usually don't take it when exercising, as many suggest. It's just easier to prepare it in the morning and take it with me to work. My observations? I've had mild strength gains and durability when doing my light weight lifting workouts. I've also experienced increased muscle definition. What about brain health? Not sure. My short term memory may be a little better. There could be other positive benefits that aren't observable outside of running medical tests. Any negatives? None.

Jen Thompson, 50 years, 135lbs (5’5”), benches 325.5 lbs She credits creatine as a must. Told her studies show it’s not that effective in 50+. She asked if I was taking it right. Well everyone is all about the 5gs a day. She said she does .1g per body weight. Makes sense…after all all ages, weights take the same amount is goofy. Tried it…wow, past 2 workouts not a sign of fatigue in my arms. I’m 50 now benching 117.5 kg (259 lb) Yes, kidneys… I drink 3 liters during my 3hr workouts. 😉
