You did an excellent job on this review. The graphics are particularly notable; they illustrate your key points clearly without being overly ostentatious. I've been using the Vocaster One for the past year and I'm more than happy with it's reliability, 70 db gain, and ease of use. I do all my processing in post, so the DSP software isn't useful for me, although for a new podcaster or a podcaster who doesn't want to do much editing it may be helpful. Best of luck with your new RODECaster Duo.

@@StephenCarterStressExpert Thank you very much for your positive review. I appreciate your comments. I’m glad your Vocaster One is working for you. For the price they are fantastic and all most of us need for an audio Interface. So far my Rodecaster Duo is working well. It took a while to make the transition because it works differently from the Vocaster but I have it all sorted out now.

@@Tigga490 Thank you for the comment. I was afraid I’d lose some people there. 😀 I’m glad you liked my solution. It’s holding up great with absolutely no problems. You can easily clamp the piece down to the edge of a table and use an electric drill OR use something like an ice pick to enlarge the holes enough for the screws to fit. It’s also possible to just use the piece with the threaded holes. I chose to enlarge them to make it easier to attach the piece.

@@marcelomoellermota1537 I’m glad you found the information helpful. It certainly seems to have been fixed. As I mentioned in the video, my replacement pair hasn’t been babied at all and it’s holding up well to the abuse I’ve given it. I also know Tom Buck hasn’t had any issues with the newer headphones he has and haven’t heard of lately reporting any issues. At least, if it happens, the video also tells you how to get them replaced under Rode’s Lifetime Warranty. No matter what happens Rode has you covered. I hope you enjoy them as well as I have.

Looking forward to the third video. I had a pair after first release and the locking mechanism completely disintegrated on both sides beyond repair. I got in touch with Rose about it and they essentially said it was my fault that they had no other issues with any other unit that was sold they made so many hoops for me to jump through to try to get #Warrantyrepair done I got frustrated and threw the things away. If they ever improves the locking mechanism, I would buy another pair again just because of comfort and sound quality.

@@fiddlix I’m still working on the third video in the series. Number two should be posted on Thursday. I’m very surprised with the response you got from Rode. That must have been early on in the production. By November 2022 Rode switched from a 10 year warranty to the lifetime warranty. As I’ll point out in video three, I had my replacement headphones from Rode soon after I contacted them and sent in the required paperwork. It was very easy. If you can supply me with specific details on your experience, depending on what you have, I could include your experience in video three. I’d need dates and any emails or other proof of what happened. I can promise you that NONE of your personal information would be included. To be safe you can remove any personal information from whatever you supply me with. I’ll make sure your email address isn’t exposed. Just let me know if you’re interested and I can supply you with my contact information. I’ve only heard of a similar problem from someone who lives in a country where Rode products are only sold by one retail supplier, Not Rode. His issue was they were requiring them to pay for shipping. As for Rode fixing the FitLoc it seems they have somehow improved the plastic being used but they have been completely silent about the issue. Even in the document where they extended the warranty no mention was made regarding the issue. They just seemed to say they were extending the warranty for no specific reason.

@@donbullock-techihound I do have a question. Unfortunately, the text and sparkle animation was soft on focus, which is what the output looked like in iMovie and in Quicktime. It looked fine in Keynote. Apple Tech tried to help but they had no solution. Do you find that? I used Brush Script MT, background was green, used Sparkle for the effect, exported as a movie using everything from Apple Pro Res 4444 to H.264 and still got soft focus. With Apple Tech on the line, we checked out the output with Quicktime and iMovie with the same result. We tried different fonts. We tried as an animated GIF. No luck. @@roberthansen9663 Hi Robert. All I can say is that what I get is what you saw in the video. I didn’t do anything to sharpen the text or affects. The only thing I can think of that might cause what you’re referring to as soft focus may be due to your monitor’s resolution. I’m using a 5K Studio Display as my primary monitor. I do, however, use a 1080P TV as a secondary monitor. My videos and text aren’t nearly as sharp on it. The same, to perhaps a lesser extent, can be said for a 4K monitor or TV. There’s a scaling issue. Do you have the soft focus on videos once they are exported and viewed on an iPhone or iPad? Just wondering if the issue goes away. Sorry I can’t be of more help.

Because, in the USA, no company ever wants to miss out on making money off of a new device, during the holiday season. What was more of a surprise to me was that, Apple introduced a more powerful version of their M2 "mac mini" desktop with four (4) thunderbolt ports. Hello Jurai. Thank you for watching and replying. I appreciate hearing from you. BTW - Just call me Don. I’m afraid my optimism that Apple will send out another update for the Studio Display web cam. It seems if they were going to do that it would have been included in MacOS Ventura. My only hope is that the MacOS team has been too busy with all the bugs and trying to get things like Stage Manager that they haven’t had time for the webcam. Unfortunately I’m thinking that the Continuity Camera feature in Ventura is, in Apple’s plans, taking the place of improving their webcams on Macs both now and in the future. I’m truly afraid that’s what Apple is planning. Without the webcam the Studio Display is an outstanding monitor. If you haven’t checked out my review of the Studio Display I’d suggest that you do before buying one. While I’m enjoying my Studio Display it’s not for everyone.

At least now that Ventura is out, you should be able to use your I-Phone's camera with the Continuity Camera feature in Ventura. Looks like you got a really great setup, as a substitute for a larger I-Mac that Apple has not come out with at this time. I would have gone that route, but I already got the 16-inch MacBook Pro M1 Max, and I can mirror it to my LG 55-nch TV smart TV that also has Apple TV with various other options including KZbin with is what I am watching this video on, but I am using my computer to type this comment with. I am an Apple Fan, but I know they are not perfect, but sure come out with many nicely made products. I still have my I-Pod Classic, which was a Christmas present many years ago, and I also got an I-Tunes gift card which I got into I-Tunes, which is still I-Tunes for Windows users and Apple Music on the Apple devices.

You’re right about using Continuity Camera in Ventura. That’s my plan after I make the OS switch. I’m still seeing too many issues with Ventura for me to switch yet. I was thinking about purchasing the M1 MacBook Pro. I have a nephew who uses one. He’s a coder and loves his MBP Max. Since I don’t travel and I have an iPad Pro to use when I’m away from my desk the Studio Max with the Studio Display are perfect. While I have owned and used several Windows computers over the years, mostly because I had to for work, I’ve been mostly an Apple user. I also have Adobe, on both, but I am finding that it is more difficult to change the names of layers. I don't remember it being that difficult, when I took some classes on Illustrator and Photoshop, they had Intel Macs, and I was able to go from Windows to Mac, and changing the layer names, just by clicking in the name and changing it. Can't do that on the M1 Mac. Also, not sure that the files on the Mac are compatible with Windows anymore. I may have to store files on Adobe & Apple Cloud to use them in between systems.

When I made this video full screen on my 2014 iMac Retina 5K, the detail on your face was really poor, especially your eyebrows and cheeks. It looks better as 1/4 screen; it seems to have more detail. Then I noticed that the highest quality I could select (for this video) in KZbin was 1080p. So I wonder if that full screen blotchiness is partly from trying to upscale the video to 5K2K and trying to smooth out the pixelation? What's the maximum resolution you can get out of this web cam? For sitting at a desk, Center Stage seems pointless, or even detrimental. I think they would have been better off with a narrower field of view, where they could use all of the pixels for better image quality. They could probably even get away with a lower resolution sensor, and still have better image quality than what they've got now. If they can put multiple cameras in an iPhone, maybe they could put two cameras in the Studio Display (one ultra wide angle for Center Stage, and one wide/normal angle for just sitting right in front of the display). Maybe they should give you a way to manually crop the image when Center Stage is off. And perhaps a way to select how much noise reduction and smoothing? I rarely use a web cam, and it seems like this one would be tolerable for light duty video chatting. I think the tough part about the Studio Display is the price relative to performance. Compare it to the 24-inch iMac M1. The iMac's screen has the same pixel density and almost as much resolution, plus an actual computer you can use, and a web cam with much better video quality, all for the same or lower price. If they offered the 5K display plus the iMac's web cam and speakers, and a few USB ports, for a lower price, I think it would be a clear winner.

Just came upon your site and, I must say this is an excellent overall review of Apple's Studio Display. Thank you, for giving us a "Real" users point of view. In the past, I have always highly recommend Apple monitors for owners of Apple computer systems. Currently, I am still using Apple's 27-inch Cinema LED (none thunderbolt) display which had been paired with my 2010, Mac Mini (the last model with a built-in DVD super-drive) but, is now paired with my used 2014, trash can size "space gray" Mac Pro 8-core/ D700/ 64GB/ 1TB SSD. Since that sometime within the next 24-month period, I will pick-up an Apple desktop with either a M-1 or M-2 processor. Around the same time, I will also be buying a new Apple monitor. Not being hateful. The monitor creates enough problems that your lighting scheme is not an issue for me. With the center stage and portrait mode off, try just raising your chair or tilt the monitor down if it has that on the stand. Or, don't worry about it. And, fake bokeh on a cheap under developed webcam lens and system is less than smart on Apples' part. I'm done. david.

David, raising my chair or tilting the monitor will not improve the excessive headroom issue. The space is automatically readjusted by the camera. That’s what it’s set for by Apple. Agree that Apple didn’t do a great job on the fake bokeh. That’s one of my points. Based on their other cameras this one should be better than it is.

Thanks for your video. Good luck with your channel. I wondered if you use the default (2x) scaling on the Apple Studio Display and how far from the monitor do you sit?

Thank you for the comment. I appreciate the encouragement. My display is what I would call a normal distance away from me across a pretty standard desk. Some text at that distance is somewhat difficult to read. Of course in my case that’s somewhat age related.

Studio display havé 600 nits SDR, 5k resolution at 218 ppi, all the best on the market for the image quality after the Pro Display HDR.

Thanks for the comment. I’d love to have the Pro Display XDR but just couldn’t find a way to buy one. I’m glad Apple decided to make the Studio Display for now. Maybe I can update sometime in the future.

I bought the studio display and the mic doesn’t work and the webcam is just bad. As an Apple user for 10 years, this is poor design. I’m keeping it and may get it replaced, but with wait times as they are, I am just holding tight for now.

I’m sorry that your Studio Display microphone isn’t working. That’s a bummer. I’m not sure what the process is for getting it replaced under the guarantee but you might want to check into any time limits. It’s interesting that Apple’s fulfillment of orders is so far behind because some stores have the base models in stock. Good luck. Let me know if you get a new one and how the process to get one replaced works out for you.
