Just found your channel , love y'all already . I am in central Virginia & actually grew up very near Walton's Mountain & have met the real Mom Walton , ( Olivia ) mother of all those beautiful Walton children . Her daughter in law actually baby sat my youngest son when I lived in Scottsville , Va . Being a homesteader , I know the heartbreak of losing a beloved animal . But joy always comes ' in the morning ' . What a beautiful family you have . May THE LORD bless & multiply all you & your family put your hands , mind & heart to .

My heart hurts for you. 💔💔😭😭 It takes a while to process grief like that. We unexpectedly lost my husband’s dog in November and we are grieving still. Similar to your situation there is not only grief to process, but also trauma layered on top, which is a unique circumstance. It’s not like losing an older animal on the homestead where your heart had time to prepare. 😢🙏🏻 I’m so sorry. I felt every tear and know Lily was the most beloved and gentle girl. Thanks for sharing with us. I love your channel and find it so refreshing. I agree wholeheartedly about the Waltons comment. ❤ May Yah bless and keep you and comfort you during this season of grief. Hugs from WI ❤

I’m so sorry to hear about your husbands dog! It is so hard when we lose animals we love so much! Alyssa told me I don’t want animals if it hurts this much to lose them. I said but Yah blessed us with such a beautiful gift we get to love that much. What is life if you don’t love. I will forever be grateful for the blessing she was to us.

Hello Saundra, Michael and family from our family farm in New Hampshire. Good to see your breakfast clip but sad about your cow. It is part of farm life, but not easy. I have a Hereford cow story. Around five years ago I had to have cataract surgery early in the morning at the hospital. I got ready. Then Jim took a phone call from his brother and proceeded to put on his overalls. I said what are you doing! One of the older cows had fallen asleep on the top of a ridge, rolled down the hill and hit a tree!! She was wedged and could not get up. The boys tried to right her, but she was some 1,500lbs. They called the butcher. He came and declared her too damaged to recover and took care the situation so Jim could drive me to hospital. That cow was around 6 years old. She had just weaned her calf. By the time I got to the hospital My BP was over the top! They had to calm me down before I could enter the operating theater. Such is life on the farm. Its doesn't always go well with two nursing calves. We have a challenge trying to get a mother to take on another calf and usually end up bottle feeding. ~ Diane

We are on opposite ends of the States, aren't we! I like Washington state. We also border Canada. I could live in Washington. I like bay trees and lots of fresh salmon :-) You picked a good state. I would be happy to mentor you on any subject in my workshops. I can send you a list of classes. No charge, just share your successes with me and I will be asking for tips as well. I have had pleasure horses, including a half Percheron, bunnies > the registered CA breed puts on an extra pound of meat for the same amount of grain. Their manure is great for the garden or in a worm farm . Selling bait is lucrative!, chickens, ducks, geese. Love Toulouse geese! I got excellent hatch rates in the Sears 400 egg wet incubator. Nice tame meat bird, but I sold more for pets on the pond. If you can find an old Sears redwood incubator, they are great! I'm pretty sure you can still get the thermostats on line. I used to get $7.00 each for day old goslings. What growing zone are you? We are Zone 4B.

Hello Saundra- I love green tomato mincemeat. I'm sure there are different recipes for it .This one is out to a cookbook I got with my Original Rival crock pot back in the 70s. I can send you a photo of it via email. They may still be around. 2lbs green tomatoes, 2 lbs apples- cored, 1/4 lb suet, 1 1/2 Tablespoons salt, 1 1/2 Tablespoons cinnamon, 4 Tablespoons grated lemon peel, 1/2 Cup lemon juice, 1/2 cup orange juice, 2 cups raisins, 7 cups sugar, 1 teaspoon ground cloves, 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg, Put tomatoes,apples, suet through grider. Combine all ingredients in crock pot on high for 4 to 6 hours. Stir occasionally. Remove cover last two hours of cooking. ladle into hot, sterlized jars and water bath can. Does not give the processing time. ~ Diane

Hello Saundra! Ok, help me out. We count bales not tons. so if the baler was set at 40 lbs, a ton would be 50 bales? We set out baler at 40lbs and cut around 7,000 bales off our 40 acres of hay fields. We cut two cuttings, sometimes 3rd cut. Not used to the round bales. They make me nervous, but they have their place. What state are you in? We don't get that much smoke, unless its Canadian fires.I used to tell my mom that its only day old dirt 😂 Good to see all the hay for the winter. We winter over between 40 and 50 polled Hereford. We are trying to reduce the herd as we get older. Your kids are so young here. What troopers! ~ Diane
@fowlerfamilyhomestead3389

It’s around 32 bales per ton. We just know we need x amount of hay and they know how many bales per ton. So pretty much the same. We did half round half square this year. With Adeline it just made sense. They are so little here! This is why I love making videos I get to see my babies grow ❤️. We live in NE Washington. Right up by Canada. If I’m not mistaken that year was a LOT of smoke from Canada. Day old dirt 😂😂. That made me laugh!

Sandra how can I stress that this 'actually' may be a good sign. Why would Satan bother with you? Because he wants to stop you from continuing to do things RIGHT. Not good for his side of the equation. Why would he waste an effort on someone who is already lost? Angels can only be in one place at one time, so send him packing in the name of Jesus! Sandra, you already have " two or more", just in your household, my Christian sister. Good luck with your pantry challenge. We are only three on the family farm and currently undertaking cleaning out three freezers. Please see if you can post videos on regular days, so your viewers know when to look for your broadcasts. Your channel usually pops up on my " subscribed list", otherwise I will search for a new one on a day that your usually post. Yes, do share your birth story. Life is such an amazing gift. Showing the human side of becoming a mother is helpful to touch upon, in order to remind others the magnitude this actually entails. Its a blessing and a challenge on so many fronts. ~ Diane

Hello Sandra- Really enjoyed seeing your family. Great kids! You all remind me of the Waltons. The original Walton's Mountain movie was set in 1933. Patricia Neal played Olivia. We live a similar lifestyle, although now we can play the grandparents! Just prior to the pandemic, I was offering a workshop called " A Day in the Life of a 1935 New Hampshire Farmwife". Students were gong to learn some history and live some history, lighting the kitchen wood stove, baking blueberry bread and lighting oil lamps. I'm restoring an oak 1928 Hoosier baking cabinet. An oak ice box will be my next project. We don't have milk cows, only Hereford, who have calves that are sold for breeding stock. I wouldn't want to milk those ladies! They are not the cozy types, but terrific mothers! You and Michael are so blessed to have this wonderful family dynamic and so are your children, to be part of the lifestyle like my Grandma Hazel grew up in. It made my day to see the sibling interactions. ~ Diane

Oh what I wouldn't give to have a Cosco near by! We are north of Concord, NH ( state capital ) I heard a rumor that Cosco might build in Concord. I would be in heaven! Thanks for taking us along for your grocery haul. One comment. Have you read the ingredients on the store tortillas? I am trying to reduce my processed foods and found Stacey brand to be good, if I don't make tortillas myself. I'm on a strict post-surgical diet to keep my pancreas happy, so that makes me behave when I would love to cheat. Great deal on the boneless and whole chicken 💃💃. The cost of food is getting out of hand, especially if you are going for good quality and healthy ingredients. You have done a really great job on this haul! I'm trying hard to find the best ways to freeze and preserve foods and leftovers. ~ Diane

Happy 🎇🎇🎉🎉 New Year- 2025 from our New Hampshire farm! So good to see someone cooking away on a kitchen wood stove. Looks like a Kitchen Queen, but not sure. Their smaller model would be my next choice for an airtight. I restored our great uncle's 1930 Home Comfort. He bought it new and then it sat for decades in his little cabin next to the dairy barn. The boys moved the 400lb beast to the house barn where it took me a year to bring her back. Now she graces the kitchen of the home we built at the base of our main farm. I do envy the fire box on your stove. We log and I am grateful for the hardwood leftover branches. What is your biggest challenge with your stove. For me its cleaning her out. There is a tiny-tiny clean out door to get the long scraper through. I look forward to following your channel. All the best ~ Diane

So glad you have plans for 2025 videos. More wood stove cooking and tips please! If you have an email address I can send you photos of " Matilda" and the family farm. We are a 350 acre working farm- grass fed beef- commercial hay- commercial logging and firewood. There are three properties. My brother-in-law owns the main farm. We build a house in the woods 1/8 mile away. So my husband gets picked by his brother on the way to the log landing. And there is a 50 acre piece which is the grandparent's home ( 1800s) now owned by a cousin in CA. We hay their fields. They visit in summer. I will pass this channel along. We are a small town (2,600 ) very "Down Home Americana/Normal Rockwell In Central Lakes Region. Zone 4B. Keep those videos coming :-)
