@tonytango6676 Thank you for the question. It is not recommended to feed water- glassed eggshells. Personally we have never tried it. There is a potential for the shells to be contaminated from sitting in the pickling lime which could compromise the birds health and cause illness. Best to err on the side of caution in my opinion and avoid it alltogether.
@tonytango66762 күн бұрын
@@northern.lights.homestead yes, that is what I was thinking too. Freeze drying is an option but initial cost is a lot more obviously and it’s more work.

@MamaKat62 generally whenever they molt or if anyone shows signs of sickness. (Sneezing /wheezing) It's super good for them so no harm in having access to it regularly. Even the healthy birds will benefit from it.

Had my flock for 5 or so years now. My favorite breed no contest. Incredible moms even though the young ones break a few eggs. Very protective. Had one kick my cat so hard he landed on his back. Poor little guy didn't know what happened. Thankfully they aren't like that with me or in general. I use a doghouse filled with hay so theres plenty room. Ive also had some not break any. So some are clumsier than others. This year mine went broody crazy but had a possum attack and eat a whole batch before I knew they were sitting in a new place. At least 2 broody all summer and spring. My rooster is fantastic everything you could ever want in a rooster, he is loud though so not for cities.

@joshportie couldn't agree more. Such a great breed. Haven't seen her get kicked but our cat definitely yields to our girls. 😊 They even get along great with our Bantams.

I like it. Do you have any B roll and maybe ten minutes of video time to help us understand what you need to take into consideration in your climate and what you might not worry about (that an inexperienced person might be worried about)? Thanks!
@northern.lights.homesteadАй бұрын
@marcus3457 Thank you. I'm afraid we don't have that much more footage but will see what we can do. Just took some spot shots during progress. As far as considerations, any lumber touching earth should at a minimum be pressure treated. Any exposed lumber should be exterior grade or covered to prevent rotting. We consider snow and wind drift for positioning of our openings to ensure ease of access during deep winter snow storms and prevent our wood from getting covered. I prefer metal roofing and siding for finishes. Aside from good cedar it will outlast just about any other building material and snow sheds from it with ease which lowers moisture exposure to the substrates. Hope that helps.

Martin Silverudd died befor he got to put the finishing touch on his new greenlaying hen. He did not leave any precise description of the chicken besides the green eggs but all of his chickens purpose was for smaller commersial chicken farms. Thats why the is no standard in Sweden on this breed, its first and formost an laying bird who didnt make it to its intended purpose. I have my SB with my New Hampshire reds and they get along fine.
@northern.lights.homesteadАй бұрын
Well that is sad news about Mr. Silverudd but also explains alot about why these birds seem to have some lesser desired personality quirks. It's a shame nobody ever picked up where he left off and continued the breeding. Thank you so much for sharing.

A hornet came into our house at night. At first, we thought it was a horse fly so my husband, who had a gout flare up at the time, limped into the kitchen where it flew and got some bug spray and started trying to spray this thing. The scene that ensued was hilarious to watch 😂. He didn't understand why it was so fast until he got it a few times with the bug spray and it landed on the floor. This hornet was huge.

@angellacalhoun5289 they are no fun to deal with. Aggressive little things that can bite repeatedly. Luckily we haven't had one get into the house yet. I can only imagine the scene that must have been. 😊 🐝
