I disagree with what you are saying. I use the PROV1 ball and my game improved dramatically especially around the greens. If Titleist was all about markering, the Tour players wouldn't play it. The thing you are paying for in addition to the R and D You are paying for consistency ball by ball.

It's funny nike gets out of golf just about 3-4 yrs before the game starts to blow up. They made a few pretty good irons and wedges. Some decent putters and one or two decent wood offerings that's about it.

What happened is exactly the same as what happened to Mike Weir. He won in PGA tour, major championships... And then someone convinced him to create a brand new swing, as grown-ass adult man in his 20's. Why?! That swing got you multiple majors. Why would you break it apart and start fresh with a swing coach!?

Got some 101T's last year and I love them. Great price point and they play well. I'm just a weekend duffer so I didn't want to shell out a bunch of $$ and these fit my needs. Also got some Skyforger wedges. For me it was a great investment.

As a beginner, these expensive balls don't do anything for me. Anything I happen to have is good enough as long as it isn't damaged - I will probably lose the thing anyways after a few shots. If I ever run out of balls, I would go to your sponsor and order a tub full of something or another.

This isn't anything new, these guys are just copying the same exact strategy we've seen in the watch (and other industries), with companies like MVMNT and other fashion watch brands. The fact they're using "blanks" and just having a custom logo put on it, is the same thing as in the watch industry where companies can just buy cheap watch blanks and put a logo on it. The influencer strategy of getting fashion brands to hawk the product on KZbin etc. is also the same. They can charge less, not because they're cutting out the middle man (a common watch industry trope) but because they're buying cheap ready made equipment. They don't have any of their own R&D or anything, its just a brand slapped on some wholesale equipment, which they didn't pay to develop. The fact their equipment is "good enough" is true because most golfers don't need high end equipment.

Good point but I also I think the value for a golf club is created differently than fashion or watches. Very often those accessories have value not because they can do things well or even look good but because they have a certain brand name behind them. They can’t tell time any better (for the most part) than any others. Though golfers can definitely be attracted to brand names (especially with putters) I believe they will be more willing to adopt these items than others looking to wear MVMNT or brands like that. Golf clubs are tools. Fashion is an accessory. Performance per dollar matters a lot more to people because of that.
@thehistoricalgamer
@thehistoricalgamer 2 күн бұрын
@@RoluGolf I think you're right that outside of certain use cases, watches are more fashion than tool (in the modern world anyway) and a golf club is a tool. That said "prestige" is absolutely a big thing in golf, or at least it was when I was playing competitively in high school (I sucked but if I didn't play the team would have not had enough folks to field a team). Prestige is likewise big in golf because its such a (historically) moneyed game. So in the same way that watches are also about prestige so too is golf. A lotta golfers buy Titlest because they're Titlest not because there aren't other comparable tools. I don't think you're wrong, that this brand (and its inevitable copycats) might capture a meaningful portion of the market, but if I had to guess the companies most at risk are not going to be Callaway, or Titleist, but the challenger brands. If I worked for Wilson this kind of thing would worry me, less so for Titleist or Callaway.

@@RoluGolf Btw love the channel. I found you from your Nike video (Nike was a big prestige thing in highschool when I was playing 06-10), and I only recently got back into golf in the last year, frankly I had no idea of the history behind Nike golf other than they were Tiger's brand and Tiger was cool for a bunch of kids in the 00s :P.

takomo has done such a good job. i bought the 101 a while ago and i love them. it was a perfect fit in terms of money, i simplay cannot afford spending 1400€ on a set of pings or callaways. plus at my level the difference is so miniscule, i will shank a taylormade p790 the same way as my takomos. the way i did it is i booked a fitting at my loval pro shop and then went online and customized the 101s to the spec and shaft i need. saved so much money

I'm curious - where do you get the idea the brand has failed/not worked out? I see plenty of people wearing SDR. As someone else said - the aim is high-end, not a Nike or FJ competitor. At $350+ for a Cashmere Sweater, its pretty clear what they are going for. Your video literally assumes the wrong positioning and therefor draws the wrong conclusion

Ive been playing golf for more than 50 years and there have been TONS of changes in equipment during my life. I remember when the ProV1 came out. I can tell you without an an ounce of doubt, the ProV1 helped my game due mainly to less spin than a wound ball. If you have ever played with a wound golf ball, you know what Im talking about. Wound golf balls spin much faster than multi piece ones and what you might consider a hard fade with a ProV1 was a hell of a slice with a wound ball. Same goes if you hit draws and hooks. That ball is without a doubt, responsible for its reputation. It lowered scores for everyone who played wound golf balls. To say it's not much better would be the same as saying a modern day 460CC titanium driver and a classic Persimmon driver are equal, or not much different, which is ludicrous. To comment about which ball is best for a golfers game, the answer is it doesnt really matter. Even inexpensive golf balls of today are way better than they were pre 1990. Until your handicap gets into single digits, when you can start shaping your shots on purpose and get a decent chipping skills, then that's when you start looking at specific balls to hone your skills.
