I am a 20 handicapper. I play mostly balls that I find as I play. I keep the good ones for the golf bag, and toss the used up or super cheap ones in my shag bag at the house. I must admit, I get excited when I find a Pro-V1 and I put it in a special pocket on my golf bag. I love to break them out on par 3's. They seem to find the green more frequently for me. I am sure it is in my head as a weird confidence thing, but the results are still there.

I’m roughly the same skill level as you. I tend to agree when I okay with a good used Pro v I see better approach shots for sure.
@lkae414 күн бұрын
I used to be just like you. Loved the Pro V1 but played with all kinds of random golf balls. Then I got a push cart and started using a colored golf ball because it was easier to track. My scores slowly rose, birdies went away like winter in Canada. Last month, I put the Pro V1X Left Dash into play just to try something new. Went on a tear with 2 birdies a round for 3 straight rounds and bagged my first eagle. I will not touch another golf ball if someone paid me. Makes golf life much simpler. Now I donate all my found balls, found mostly because I like doing my part to clean up the golf course hah.

@@lkae4 congrats! I have heard that some people believe that balls dipped in holy water in church on a Sunday fly further and are better on the greens. Only works on Sundays with a full moon. 😂

@@kosa4038 Tell that to all the Callaway and TaylorMade players gaming a Pro V1X. They literally won't play another ball when they are paid to. 🤣

I'm a handicapped (my term) golfer (and by that I mean I'm pretty much re(dacted)) I play balls I find (that's a lot of them and used balls. My local club sells "used balls" for the equivalent of about $2.50 for 5. Mostly used topflites. Some really used "proper brands" The other day I found 4 pro v1s and 5 pro v1xs. And some taylormade something something's. And I can say for sure I send all of them regardless of brand into the same water hazard so it makes no difference to me.

Wedges should have been the last thing you tested. Even modern ProV's, pros are switching them out pretty much every 2-3 holes due to wear from irons. The Balata covers use to be switched out every 1-2 holes as they were much worse and prone to smiley's off cuts, which would leave a riged 'smile' on your golf ball. You have no idea how many players have had to hit chips with a busted ball.

The Spalding Tour Edition was the first multilayer with a soft cover. The problem was it spun too much. Titleist figured out how balance the spin and launch. The TW was good too, but most of the old school pros didn’t want anything to do with Nike. The ProV evolved quicker too. The ball today is far superior to the original.

Did I just watch a long ass video that basically just said Titleist got popular by giving all the pro golfers the Pro V1 to use?

Starting the game as a kind I am now in my late 50th, still playing of HDCP 3 - in tournaments always ProV1, in private also Vice, Taylormade, Callaway … - nearly of any age and quality; whatever is in my bag. When I grew up Titelst balata was the ball of the top amateurs and professionals. So it was prestigious to play also a ball from at least the same brand. Not for me since I played Spalding irons. My best round is still a 65 (-7) I played with a TopFlite XL! My recommendation to all players with HDCP >10 who want to get better: play any ball you get (as long it´s not a range ball) and save the money for lessons at a good coach. More greens in regulation and better short game is the real game changer, not a ball for 5€++ ! Have fun and enjoy this wonderful game. K

I remember when these came out also. I played golf myself and I was a caddy at the closest country club. There was a definite group of players, mainly the old men that were playing old Wilson blades, that swore to never use the new Pro V. But the younger members that were playing Ping Eye 2’s or Tommy Armour 845’s…they all used the new ball. 😅 And as a caddy, you knew if you were looping for the younger guy with the new stuff, you’d be spending a lot of time looking for lost tee shots.

I used to use the Nike Tour ball, and yes the cover gets chewed up very fast. But they did have great spin off the wedge.

The first Nike ball wasnt a Nike ball, it was a rebadged Precept Tour Premium. So I was playing the "Tiger" ball, but $1 cheaper. I still have a few left. So there you have another premium multi layer ball thay preceded the Prov1

If you ask anyone who checks their balls COG before playing them, they will all tell you that Titleist has the least duds. That's why I always thought they were so popular, because they have the best quality control.

If you are not a +2 or better and can hit a PW seventeen different ways, this ball will not help. Around the green if you chip it wrong it runs off the back, if you catch it perfectly it checks up 12' short. Basically, it introduces a variable into your game that you have no control over. I won $75 last week because my opponent kept ripping his wedges back off the front of the green. He had no idea how to hit a zero-spin wedge. Nor do i.

If you’re a single digit you need to play a pro V or equivalent or you’re losing shots.

I don’t think there’s a single “best ball” that fits everyone. I’m a mid hcp with pretty avg swing speed, and I use the Bridgestone golf ball finder on their website. Maybe other brands have that too. You enter a couple of metrics and preferences, and they recommend a ball for you. For me, it was one in the mid-price tier, and it works perfectly fine. I don’t think I would gain anything by just buying a V1 or another super expensive one.

This is now another person mentioning Tiger playing a superior ball to every other pro during the 2000 season. If this is true it diminishes his accomplishments in what is often considered the greatest golf season ever.

Tiger wasn't the only person using them and they have been around since the mid 80s. Mark O'Meara won an open with a solid core ball in 1998.
