I'm going on 20 years of using Leica, having owned a ton of other gear along the way. I feel that the "Leica look" is some sort of expectation bias, probably due to having spent a lot of money. Some of their lenses have incredibly unique character, absolutely. Personally, I use Leica because the size and ergonomics are amazing, knowing that the look is repeatable and the performance-per-dollar is objectively miserable. That said, I'm a massive Leica fan. If you want one, get it, you don't need to invent reasons that aren't there. If you're only seeking the look, I definitely suggests some voigtlander lenses and a Canon body (the Sony are fine but the sensor stack doesn't handle extreme incident angle lenses well).
@bwest62755 күн бұрын
I have the previous version cron ASPH and it looks like it's smaller than this version. I absolutely love Leica glass. And TBH, I think it's so weird why people buy an M body and put non-Leica glass on it. IMHO the whole point of a Leica system is absolutely the Leica glass. They render images gorgeously.

It's funny how we all have different demands for camera straps... and consider different straps 'the best'. My perfect strap would just be an half inch wide flexible leather strap, that doesn't get tangled up and is adjustable in length so that I can have it either very short on my chest, or long and across my side. Preferably without any pads or hardware on it that can get uncomfortable and that would still allow me to quickly wrap the whole thing around my wrist as some kind of wrist strap.

Very nice photography and nice review. I find this video looking for this very lens for reportage and cerimonies working sometimes as second shooter, and i think it can work nicely. Obiouvsly you need properly lit scene but as i were used to carry around an heavy ff 70-200 f2.8 all day long in weddings to be able to capture close tight details and candids, this one with +100mm reach and a third of the weight seems a fantastic choice to me if the AF keeps up, a skilled photographer should made it work also for portraiture. 80-300mm ff equivalent in little weight space and money has certainly LOTS of appeal if good enough.

A good way to get away from a hit-and-miss approach (or quantity over quality bias) is to shoot film - and actually pay for each shot. It instills discipline, improves anticipation, and grows your 'keeper' rate. In other words: Want to become a better photographer? Shoot film.
@TheLiamGordonАй бұрын
@@bernardlesperance742 I started with film and still have it around but I made the most improvements and have the most fun with digital. My keeper rate may be lower but my portfolio growth rate is far higher because I find myself experimenting and working scenes harder. The great thing is we have all these mediums to find the process that fits us and the slow and steady film process is an asset to many, especially those who grew up with digital.

I shot my kit all the time in drizzle, light showers, sprinkling, etc, when I sold to MPB, it was brought to my attention there was a bit of fungus inside, they discounted accordingly. Nothing that showed up in my images, that made any noticeable impact. Having the 16 f1.4 (a love affair) and 33 f1.4 (superb), I think 56 f1.2 is the next obvious lens for me, the original is so far cheaper than the new at this time, that's the way it'll go for me!

I found your comments about criticism for photographing the back of a person pretty broad. In wildlife photography, avoiding rear shots makes sense since they often lack interest. However, it's different for human subjects. In the photos you mentioned, the focus isn't on the derriere but rather on capturing a different perspective or context. Saul Leiter once said: "A person's back tells me more than the front."

@@abhijit-sarkar I don’t feel like it was broad, I was speaking of that specific image and the “don’t photograph people’s backs” rule that is often espoused online. But as with images, sentences may be interpreted in a different way too and maybe that’s what has happened here.

The newest APO-Summicron-M 35 APH is a terrific lens on an M11, M11 Monochrom, or SL2. It is sharp, apochromatically corrected, has 2 more aperture blades than the previous version, and can focus to 0.3 m (which requires using Live View on the rear LCD screen or the EVF).
