I just have a few questions: 1. Who set the price for this instrument and how? 2. How many people will hear the difference in sound between this cello and another cello that's, let's say 20k or 30k (which is still a lot of money)? 3. Is there really no cello maker in this world that can match or get close to the sound of this cello? 4. Is that him wheeling 3m cello down the street?? 5. Is this world crazy or what?

At around the 6 min. mark, the music is way too dominant and it is difficult to hear Florian Leonhard! Pls turn down the background NOISE. You are using the music to add drama and it is so unnecessary!

Wants the point of opening a violin what so you could scratch the inside and make it thinner so it will be a little louder? Never do this.

Those Goffriller cellos.. fantastic. To say nothing of Mason's playing! Thank you for this. Mr. Leonhardt's shop is beyond epic. When will he be knighted? Haha, I don't know what all goes into that. But his shop is beyond impressive what it has accomplished. I am not informed enough to know if there are other shops even close to that collection of history and craft in UK

John Harrison took twenty years to make ONE clock but the thing was almost perfect. That clock made England the master of the seas. Fiddle makers don't take 20 years to make a fiddle but their instruments are worthy works of art as well as tools of the music trade. If I sell my 1667 fiddle, how much could it be worth to my next door neighbor? NOTHING. To a concert violinist? Who knows.....

Thank you for that brief coverage of a bow rehair. I buy "premium quality" but I still end up throwing away at least 1/3 to a 1/2 as I select the hair strand by strand (a bit of a pain) to get the best hair. When selling new (mostly student) bows I have often cleaned the hair with metho & thought maybe others may not agree with that, so thanks for that bit of advice, because I feel I need to sometimes.

Where do you buy the tools? For example the tool you use for keeping the frog while the hair is attached? And the actual hair? Where do you buy it from? On internet is just a specific amount of hair ( to use just for 1 bow ) Thank you!

Is the position of his shoulder rest right? I have never seen something like that.
@liamnevilleviolist18094 жыл бұрын
Do you mean in how "low down" it is set? I set up my viola like this so I don't have to make as much of an effort keeping the instrument as close to my neck as possible, which gives me better posture naturally. I'm sure Maxim is doing this for the same reason - I do know that he injured his shoulder and readjusted his technique soon after his time off from performing. He also changed from a chin rest that was more on the left side of his violin to a central over-the-tailpiece one. That's probably factor no.2 in why he's had to adjust his shoulder rest to a further down position. I hope this helped :)
@philaryswift4 жыл бұрын
He had a shoulder surgery, so he had to place it there for his shoulder to continue to recover and not have anymore problems.

I have opened many violins over the years and repaired some expensive ones by well-known luthiers but I wanted to see Florian do it so I slowed the speed down to .25. It is still fast but at least it was good enough to realize that I am following the same procedure. I completely understand Gina Walker's comment below about the sound of the glue giving way. I just go as slowly as I can and hope for a "clean" removal. It is always good to watch a master at work... I just wish it was a lot slower! ("Old Fiddles New Life" on KZbin.)
@fingersatzundbogenstrich4 ай бұрын
If the recording was slower, anybody could closely watch and thus learn from Mr. Leonhards experience. Was it really a real Gesu?

More than likely a modern copy of an old 1734 Guarneri Del Gesu.
@kevinvanhove58344 жыл бұрын
This is Florian Leonhard, a world-known luthier. He is working with a real Guarneri, not a copy..
@DevilViolinist4 жыл бұрын
@@kevinvanhove5834 Yes agreed, I mean he literally deals in Strads, Guadagninis, Guarneris, Testore etc. He helps some of the world's finest musicians acquire the best of the best instruments. It's not often that you can choose between a few multi-million dollar instruments to play on, let alone from one owner like Mr Leonhard. I've heard one of Mr Leonhard's bench-copies of a Guarneri Del Gesu and it is as close as you can get to a violin that came from the hands of Del Gesu himself (except that it seems to have had MUCH more care put into its creation). So the clue is right there in my above statement: the real Guarneri violins come in and out of that shop and it must be a real treat for Mr Leonhard and clients when they do!
