Hi Philip: In a roundabout way, I believe you're correct. They were originally from Idaho, apparently grew up in Spokane, but I recall reading that they were living in Portland at the time they were "discovered." Probably moved there for the greater opportunities for performing.

At 0:39, Right Behind Jimmy Dorsey, That's Don Tosti! Born Edmundo Martínez Tostado In 1923, Tosti Went Out To Be One Of The Few Mexican-Americans To Play With The Big Bands In The 1940s. He Got To Play With Jack Teagarden, Bobby Sherwood, Charlie Barnet, Les Brown & Jimmy Dorsey, Who Was Actually Best Man At Tosti's Wedding On June 3rd Of 1948! By 1950,he all but abandoned his trio, and leapt into the mainstream genre. His focus was more on his voice, and less on his piano playing, and was usually backed by a full orchestra. Financially, this made him more stable. He was wonderful, no matter the format, imo.

L’ho trascritta 😁 “Tantza Babele” (Scatting) There’s a quaint little Russian melody That my grandmother used to sing And through I was a tot I never forgot that song Every evening she’d start to sing for me This melodious Russian thing for me The way she sang, how could anything go wrong? Tantza, babele, tantzele Tantza, tantza, tantza That’s what grandmother used to sing As she bounced me on her knee Tantza, babele, tantzele Tantza, tantza, tantza Made me feel bad to be alive When I heard that Russian jive She didn’t know any soothing lullabies Didn’t know how to make me close my eyes But she’d know how to stop my little cries And so she sang to me: Tantza, babele, tantzele Tantza, tantza, tantza That’s right, little one, keep on dancin’ Tantza, dance for me Every lad had it bad back in old Petrograd When Grandma sang her Russian song Dance, baby, dance, baby, dance, baby; dance Tantza, baby, tantza, dance for me Dance, baby, dance, baby, dance, baby; dance Tantza, baby, tantza, dance for me She didn’t know any soothing lullabies Didn’t know how to make me close my eyes But she’d know how to stop my little cries And so she sang to me: Tantza, babele, tantzele Tantza, tantza, tantza That’s right, little one, keep on dancin’ Tantza, dance for me Every lad had it bad back in old Petrograd When Grandma sang her Russian song
