Great video, great editing, great microphone too! Why did you cut a giant hole in the box to mount that amp?? Instead of just mounting it on the outside?? Doesn't that weaken that big long panel - allowing flex, and also beat up and vibrate the amp?

Many years ago I built a pair of 4.5'³ ported enclosures with use 4 12" in isobaric pairs. It was tuned to 17.5hz. When i rented an Audio Control RTA it was flat in the room all the way down to 20hz. It absolutely slammed. If my memory serves me, I used MTX Terminator DVC subs. I wired them to present 4 2 ohm loads to 4 bridged channel pairs out of a pair of Dennon 6 channel car audio amps. The other 4 channels ran a pair of horn tweeter and 7" midbasses. The tweeter and midbass were part of the RFL cranker line and all the tooling and the vast majority of the documentation for these drivers were lost when the warehouse/factory burned down in the late '90s. That was the first ported system that I built that I felt actually did what I wanted. Mp previous attempts were too boomy or muddy, but this one was tight, smooth, hit hard and dug deep. It had needed almost no EQ, just about -5db at 75hz which I think was a room effect.

These get expensive because of the equipment used. The cost for one of these would be $3900. Of course the one in the video was an experimental build with some 1 inch baltic birch scraps, so if I built one to sell, it would be properly sized to make sure that everything works the way it should :).
@CSMMaster3 күн бұрын
🤔 Not bad considering the return on quality of bass… What would you recommend for a theatre style setup, something in a 20’ x 20’ size room with about 10 seats? I’ve been toying with bass under the seat platform to give a physical “punch” to the viewer, but thinking a more typical “bass wave” from the front might be better. Hit you in the chest instead of the ass 😂

When doing epoxy on a floor (commercial grade) we use a squeegee. I wonder if that might work better, avoiding the introduction of bubbles. Of course, the edges might require a small roller, or perhaps a “dam”, to keep it from flowing over. Just a thought. Awesome build! Would be nice to know how you calculate the size of port for your builds 😍

Awesome build pal! I’m surprised no bracing at all. Wouldn’t even a couple of round dowel braces help, or is it really not needed? I know I have braced and used dampening material in big floor standing speakers and it really can help clean and tighten up the bass. Perhaps speakers are different than subs. Looking forward to your next one!
@righteousbuilds35768 күн бұрын
With big slow sound waves, resonant frequencies are easy to keep in check. As long as they are well above or well below the frequencies that it plays at, you're okay. With the 1 inch baltic birch, you need to brace about every 16 inches if its a big build, but with sides that are only 20 inches, I'm not too worried about it. It will also be pretty heavily damped. But if there is an issue during testing, I'll unload the enclosure and add some bracing.

@righteousbuilds35768 күн бұрын
Great question. Once I got bitten by the "sub bug" I started absorbing every bit of info I could get and just started building subs. I learned through a few less-than perfect builds what works and what reduces output. Long story short, I don't use any programs. I just design it in my head, do a quick hand drawing or two, and start building. I either just do the math or use an online calculator to determine port length and tuning.
