An outstanding rendition by a supremely talented artiste, but completely spoilt, as a video experience, by the banal camera work!! "So, you can move the camera around and around and around in circles? Bravo!" Now try remembering that the whole point of this video is to showcase the genius of Bach the composer, Busoni the arranger and last, but by no means least, Adélaïde the performer. NOT the totally distracting spinning camera work. (As a genuine suggestion, look up Hélène Grimaud's performance of this exact piece to see how camera-coverage should be done). But I must again praise the astonishing musicality of Adélaïde's playing.

Bach is genius, wonderfully supreme, sublime... He could be played on any instrument, and he would still sound divine. I don't know the technical specificities of the Marimba, but as a former student of pipe organ and harpsichord, I know that all instruments are difficult to master, especially to the point of playing works on them with the characteristics we find in Bach. The result of the Adélaïde Ferrière interpretation is very pleasant and satisfying, which is what in the end matters. A percussion idiophone like the Marimba has curious sonorities, certainly different from what a Western classical music lover is used to hearing. It has a kind of aquatic timbre, as if the sounds were produced by balls of air blowing gently underwater. I find it very relaxing. I'd love to hear more works by Bach performed by Adélaïde. I am waiting for it...
