Hey hi! I was convinced I'd dip out on them but these lot saved my bacon! Thank you - really appreciated as always. Your bird is a Fieldfare - again a Scando specialist. But then any of the Blackbirds could be Scando as well - massive influxes of so many species at this time of year. Have a great weekend, Si.

Hi, thanks for watching. I've always known these as PG's, they're listed as such in the reserve and all the supporting Spanish birding websites do similarly. They were reintroduced a few years ago and they're doing really well. Thanks again. Si. www.birdinginspain.com/sites-and-itineraries/mallorca/albufera/birding-in-the-albufera-natural-park.html

The drone footage was a unique view. The old FZ82 is still doing a great job for video, great footage of the bird on the branch. I never think about using my FZ82 for filming, more for stills to my loss it seems. I often see cormorants in the marina at Hartlepool, either fishing or out drying off on the jetties. I did get a surprise the other day with one a few miles inland, it got a surprise too as it got chased off by a crested grebe, the cormorant looked a bigger bird - maybe it was the grebe's sharp beak that put it off.

Thanks Andrew - that means a lot and is always appreciated. We're flip sides of the same FZ82 coin! I don't think I can remember a single still I've taken with it! I think Cormorants are amazingly adept at what they do but you're right, they don't seem to have an aggressive streak. Maybe being such a finely honed 'machine' they just would rather not risking injury - even slight. Thanks again for your view and comment - have a great weekend, Si.

Loved it! A beautiful study of, as you rightly say, a much maligned bird. Amazing to see the top down view from the drone of the action! I'd be interested to know what camera you used for the preening footage please? Was it your FZ82? I ask as I've recently acquired one and would appreciate any tips on how to get the best out of it for film-making! 👍🙂👍 Cheers!

Thanks so much Graham. Yes, preening shots were with the now five years old FZ82. Still, as far as I can see not bettered on the market for quality v £££. Welcome to the FZ fold! Probably best to hit me up on WhatsApp or similar so we can face time if you want a chat on handling. I will be putting out a series of films in '24 related to filmmaking and will cross reference the FZ as an example of accessibility and how to make the best of it. If you want to add me to WhatsApp I'm on 07526944823. Thanks again, Si.

Great footage. A while back a friend showed me a photo he'd taken of a cormorant catching and swallowing a whole pike. You usually think of pike as at the top of the aquatic food chain but not when it comes to cormorants it seems!

They have an amazing gullet capacity! Ruthless fishing skills - I'd say not bettered in fresh water. In the states they have a bird called an Anhinga which is within the species 'family', it's nickname is the 'snake bird' which I can totally appreciate especially when you see their ability to round corners so quickly. Thank you, David. It is, I suppose those of us who see it as so natural (no pun intended) will always wonder why something that is so integral to our well-being isn't also to others. One thing that is obvious is it only requires the smallest amount of guidance, the response always being incredible - and more often life-changing. I really think it's an area that needs a lot more research and certainly inclusion in our lives from an early age. Forest schooling is a start but, in an age when once an integral part of any classroom, the nature table, now rarely exists it appears we've a lot of distance to make. I'm going to championing the nature table next year with some projects I have planned - bring some of the magic back. Best wishes, Si.

The title alone was enough to entice any nature lover, the only Chough I ever saw was in Pembrokeshire, so it was hot buttered toast, coffee and twenty five minutes plus of bliss, all the sounds of nature and the constant lull of the sea, and we watch as the Chough reveal them selves in ever closer proximity until we see them in all their glory, an amazing, beautiful and immersive film expertly realised, what more can I say, simply wonderful 😊
