something randomly reminded me of how i had been in my school's production of this back in around 2007 or so. looked it up to see if i could find any songs to see if i still recognized anything. was surprised to find an entire start to finish version! didn't end up recognizing much but really was quite a flashback to watch. the performance on the stage in what is otherwise clearly a school gym really is the exact same vibe i remember from mine lol. thank you for sharing this!

The old Nokia on the belt haha! I was born in 1980 and visited there many times. We always went to the Midsouth Fair each year and always thought it was cool how we could just walk into Libertyland. But then all the rides were pay each time. My favorites were the log ride and Kamikaze. I drove the Tin Lizzie cars and my dad had to push th gas pedal because I was too little and couldn’t push it myself. I also remember when the water slide was added. Damn good times.

That Nokia had that swivel clip for your belt so it hung there like a six-shooter. LOL I loved the Mid-South Fair at the fairgrounds. The only thing I didn't like about LibertyLand during the fair was every ride cost tickets. They were free with admission other times. Thanks for watching and sharing your memories!

Although this video was filmed in 2001, it brings back many memories of my childhood. I was born in 2005 and I am currently 18 years old. I remember those Christmases. Being with my family is something I would like to repeat, 10 years after my last Christmas and with my entire family resting. In peace I can say that I had a good childhood and I hope more people can feel what Christmas is like.

Me being born in 1991 about two hours away (we lived close to Jackson TN) means I thankfully got to go several times in my life. The last time I went there was 2004 though I can't remember the month. Must have been summer around June or July as it was when my dad came back from overseas. He was with the National Guard in Brownsville TN and got sent to Iraq in 2003 and was gone for a year. I remember him coming home and we went with some family friends of ours. Unfortunately I don't remember much about the day other then a few small things. I do remember some stuff from other times going as well but sadly not a lot of memories. Really wish it was open still but last I heard it was turned into a golf course.

The short answer is: money. The park had lost money for several years, it's final year it was about half of a million dollars in the red. Also, it was city funded and on city-owned land, so the city was ready to use the land for a different use.
@jamesmcmillian9890

I was like 5 the last time I went to this park. I remember a wooden coaster, a ride called the zippin pippin (same thing?) a train that went around the park, that water log ride in the video. it's almost like a dream, I guess it's because I was so young that the memories are so vague. but I vividly remember my mom and dad saying they wanted to go on the zippin pippin. weird stuff to remember, and I don't know why. I'd think it was all just a dream or false memory if there wasn't proof
@NolanBuchanan
@NolanBuchanan 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing your memories of Libertyland! You are right, the Zippin Pippin was the wooden roller coaster there, although I don't have footage of it. You remember correctly about the train too, you can see us boarding it at 14:34 in the video. The Zippin Pippin was Elvis Presley's favorite ride, he would rent out the park at night in the 70's just to ride it over and over. The Pippin is the second oldest wooden roller coaster in the USA, and was sold and rebuilt in Green Bay, WI, where it is still in operation.
@jamesmcmillian9890
@jamesmcmillian9890 2 жыл бұрын
@@NolanBuchanan That's awesome! Im glad that the zippin pippin still exists at all. I honestly thought they just demolished everything. Also, the story about Elvis is really cool. I didn't know that, and it just proves how long Libertyland was around. I hate that I was way too young to really enjoy it, but I'm glad I have memories of it. Honestly crazy to think that memphis TN of all places had an amusement park like libertyland.
@NolanBuchanan
@NolanBuchanan 2 жыл бұрын
@@jamesmcmillian9890 They demolished most of the park, but the Revolution, the tubular steel coaster at Libertyland, is still in operation in an amusement park in the Philippines, and Libertyland's Grand Carousel is now at the Memphis Children's Museum, so at least the next generation of local kids can experience a part of Libertyland.

Funny story about this video: my middle son who runs in first and flops down on the couch in surprise, he admitted to me years later that his reaction was him trying to fake being surprised, because he had snuck downstairs to check out all of the gifts in the middle of the night after my wife & I had gone to bed. LOL
