Hi. It's been a long time since the publication, but do you know what kind of battery this model has?
@HeIsTheHighlander4 күн бұрын
Why measure a capacitor which is presumable defective? If it was for example 470 nF and now it is 100 nF it's a good idea replace it with 470 nF. Also dielectric may be significant. For example, X5V or any other type of two different vendors may have significantly different capacitance under a voltage applied.

Nice and helful video. I disassembled an untested 133 module, cleaned everything with IPA alcohol and put new AG8 batteries for testing. No digits on the screen. Light works. When I press a button, digits appear and module seems to function, but when I release the button, screen digits fade off again. Any help on this issue? thanks

Are you sure it's an 8239? When I search for that I mostly see analogue watches.

very nice and useful demonstration - I like the idea of finger-gloves, I'll remember that - so, as the cap wasn't the problem, why did the display fade away? Does the original polarization mask go weaker and weaker after a while?
@paulschumacker990119 күн бұрын
I’m confused. You checked the capacitance (which could be way off if the component was defective) and you replaced it with another one with the same value. Maybe you needed a different capacitance if the correct one is different from the defective one.

Why did't you just stick the polarizer to the case window instead of the watch screen? It would be easies and safer, as the polarizer distance from the screen does not make a difference ...

Hello. Your videos are amazing!. I have been unable to find the conducting silver compound L100. Do you have an alternative?

Cool. You could probably fix the light issue with simple joule thief circuit (two SMD inductors and one common SMD transistor). Also if you solder to any batteries, sand the oxidation away from the surface first to make it easier.

I have this module at home trying to get it to work and the only thing i see wrong is the negative battery foil on the circuit board has corroded away and there appears to have been a solder joint touching it at one point. It’s completely gone. Can that repaired? Where can I find a replacement module?

this watch reminds me of an old soviet tv childrens skit, where a boy with 2 suitcases was stopped by 2 larger boys who wanted to check out his watch, which had lots of cool features like radio, calculator, etc, they evenctually agreed to buy it. Then, once the money was exchanged the boy dropped the 2 suitcases he was carrying, saying "here you go!", "what is it?" the boys asked, perplexed "It's the batteries!"

I had the analog and digital calendar watch in the black case and band. I bought it in Japan in 1983. It was the sweetest watch I've ever owned! I broke it one day, trying to replace the battery; it was a nightmare. Thanks for the tip on the Japanese site!

Wearing my Pulsar LCD, I'm rather surprised to find your channel, every watch channel I've come across is for mechanical watches. My LCD kept fading out, however it was due to a failing insulation sheet that normally sits atop the battery so it won't touch that case back. It was , severely reducing the battery voltage causing the display to fade and sometime the time to reset. My mech was not easily disassembled, and I suspected some corrosion had gotten into the various layers that form the battery/power connection. In the end it twigged on me what was going on and a new plastic sheet had it fixed

A few points: First off, those ceramic capacitors for the most part never fail, given the low voltage and low pulse energy of the up-converter; furthermore, if the 'smoothing-capacitor fails, it can (if leaky) drag-down the up-converter voltage; so I would replace them in pairs. They make a tweezer style soldering irons that allows you to grab to capacitor all in one move; saving the PCB and substrate. Also, using Blue-Tack clay will allow you to stabilize the movement while you work.

Thank you for your videos. They are very instructive. Perhaps someone can help me with the problem I am experiencing with my Casio 106 H101 Marlin watch. I'm the original owner and it sat for many many years in a drawer (at least 25 years). Just last week I rediscovered it and replaced its battery. It came a live. The screen is operating perfectly and 3 of the 4 buttons work perfectly. The button that does not work is the "light" button which has other functions in the other modes. When I press it, the screen goes blank. When I release it the screen comes back immediately but with different numbers. This happens in all of the modes. I can reset it with AC but the problem persists. This problem occurs whether the module is in the watch body or not, so I know it has nothing to do with the pusher in the watch body. The circuit board components were very clean when I opened it to replace the battery. There was no corrosion anywhere including on the old battery. I still wiped down everything with alcohol. Perhaps there is a short but I have no idea where to go from here.
