PEMDA. simple and easy. And please dont reply it's PEMDAS because it's not. You soon learn subtraction does not occur. You always add a positive or negative number. Nothing more. Keep it Simple.

PEMDAS - with MD ,since it is non-parenthetical, follow the order of execution from left to right. the answer is 9

The negative in front of the radical was a sign that something is up. So 3 minus something under a square root sign is 8? No way that can be. Nothing coming from a SQRT is gonna give a negative number. Thats a sign right there

30-60-90 degree triangle. Smallest side is x, hypotenuse is 2x, big leg is xsqrt3. So hypotenuse is 8, small leg 4, big leg is 4sqrt3. Area is 1/2bh, so 1/2x4x4sqrt3. So you have area is 8sqrt3 or about 13.8564 mm^2.

Interesting little conundrum but spoiled by the amount of waffle. For example, "I told you not to use a calculator, but if you were going to use a calculator..........?" My first instinct was that it was probably undefined anyway, which seems to be the case.

I honestly just kept screaming at the video that you were going too slow. I guessed 182. The reason I got it wrong had nothing whatsoever to do with order of operations. I basically just suck at basic math. I couldn't figure out the answer to 29 X 7. Well I probably could have if I wanted to spend enough time thinking about it, but I didn't want to spend too much time thinking about it. In 4th grade I was never allowed to go to recess because I didn't have the multiplication table memorized, so the teacher made me stay in class while all of the other students went to recess.

Too much of unnecessary 'explanation', when the steps leading to the solution is fairly easy. 7 X 29 = 203 period.

Depends on the job. What was I doing, and what do you mean by "work"? I mean it sounds like the job is pretty much done... approximately 100% of the job is complete.

This is great but I'm confused why I couldn't take this path: ... 3 - sqr(25) = 8 ==> -sqr(25) = 5 ==> sqr(25) = -5 ==>(sqr(25))^2 = (-5)^2 ==> 25 = 25

1/2. After Monday, 3/4 of the work remains. On Tuesday, 1/3 of that remaining work gets done, so another 1/3 * 3/4 = 1/4 gets done. 1/4 of the job on Monday and another 1/4 of the job on Tuesday, so 1/2 remains.

This problem can be solved using a system of linear equations. First, assign Dave the variable "A" and Jeff the variable "B." A + B = 529 [#1] A - B = 99 [#2] Add equation #1 to equation #2 giving... 2A = 628 (2A)/2 = (628)/2 A = 314 Substituting 314 for A into equation #1, calculate B... (314) + B = 529 (314) + B - 314 = 529 - 314 B = 215 Therefore Dave won 314 games and Jeff won 215 games.

@16:57 In describing the PEMDAS function of the equation, you said, "We have to do division first...". That is so in this case but you should have said that we perform the multiplication and division functions "left-to-right". People could thing we always 'do division first". Just a note, not a complaint.

This reminds me when I worked at Club Point Fouronesixsixsixsixsixsixsixsixsix in Gotham City as a kid. The Boss said, "Ya Sweep one forath of da flooa taday, and one thoid of da flooa tamorrah, and I'll pay ya Fiddy Eight point threethreethreethreethreethreethreethree cents. "But what about the other fourty one point sixsixsixsixsixsixsix cents?" I asked. "Well, yar a lazy bastid ha ha" he replied. So anyway I thought about it and came up with 41.6666666666 percent of the job, because, you know it makes sense when you work at club Point Fouronesixsixsixsixsixsixsixsix.

I am sorry, I admit that I interpreted it wrong. When I read the problem again, under the “Description” of the problem, I clearly see that it says, “You complete 1/4 of the job on Monday and 1/3rd ‘more’ on Wednesday“. The word “more”clarifies that 1/3rd refers to the original (whole) job, not 1/3rd of the remaining part of the job.

I also did a close enough approach and took the easy way. Out of 100, 1/4th is 25% 1/3 is 33.33% 100-25-33.33= 41.67/100. Didn't resort to any fraction solving there. 😄

@ I appreciate so much for trying to make me feel alright. 🙏🏽 It was so sweet of you! However, first and foremost, it is critically important for us to be able to understand a problem correctly, before we start doing the problem. In my case, I had thought beyond what was needed. Now, carefully observing my thought process, I can slightly remember feeling that the problem was a little bit ambiguous. Then, I felt that the problem was too direct and easy, unless I interpreted it as 1/3rd from the remaining job. To tell you the truth, at my old age, this incidence has become an opportunity for me to observe how weird my mind had worked, interpreting the problem in a way to make it a little bit more challenging. Crazy me!

@@erdemmemisyazici3950 Your thinking has been amazing! Wow👏🏽 Each of us has our own unique way of thinking and we can do a problem in many different ways and reach the same correct answer! That is so amazing and beautiful!
