I loved this movie. Certainly Dafoe's performance which seems spontaneous constantly. And the odea that he did not kill himself removes the obsession with tragedy that so many biopics have (Billie Holiday, Judy Garland..)

Sorry but why everyone who talk about 2000s era movies always bring up Juno? That movie is so overrated. Waitress is better in every aspect. I guess everyone who gushed over Juno actually watch it in their teen and think "she's me" or "So relatable" no you don't

I think Jong Seo's father story added more to the Jong Seo's fate, they share the same DNA and probably same violent act. The knife collection, his father cases, and burning mother's clothes story might be the clue that ben being murdered really did happen.

I think I can appreciate the shear artistry and choices that went into this film, and I like your takes in this video, but I just have to say, I personally hated the cinematography. It just wasn't a movie I enjoyed watching at all. The only scene that really gripped me was when Gauguin told Van Gogh he was leaving. That's exactly what a panic attack feels like.

Loved your analysis of the film and found the Wenders quotes very interesting. My only advice is to speak just a tiny bit more slowly, there is so much information packed into each minute of the video that at some points it was hard to keep my concentration and catch everything at first. Also, your voice is very soothing! Hope to find more analysis like this one in your channel 😄

I've seen a couple people talk about the movie and how they don't really see the chemistry between the couple but in my opinion I felt it, I don't know if its just me but when they where talking together every scene I felt like if flowed so well and naturally.

as a child who is in 6th grade, i hated this movie so much. The children was supposed to be "5th grade" but definetely does not act like 5th graders. I hate it whenever there is a movie where the main focus is children, as that movie will be directed by adults and the director has no idea how children acts, so it just results in them creating characters that does not act like a human being would, much less children. Even the best of the directors, the best they can do is make the children act like humans, but most of the time far far too young.

I always thought of it as Boring the movie

Its always fun doing these rankings with a director that doesn't really make bad films. With how good all these films are, I think the rankings say more about the person making the ranking than the comparative quality of the films, and that's more fun imo.

This movie just touched me. It was so real and authentic, which is something many films lack these days, with so many mainstream movies being big budget ones filled with action and endless drama. But this movie was a simple movie about regular people and their struggles. Keri Russell was heartbreakingly good in her role; she brought a sweet but saucy attitude to Jenna. I just love it, and I always end it with many tears. What a tragedy that Adrienne Shelley didn't get to see videos like this, because her film so perfect.

Every ghibli movie has a video on YT claiming it's a "forgotten/underrated masterpiece" lol.

I'm coming a bit late to the party, but this showed up in my suggestions, and I'm glad that it did. 'At Eternity's Gate' is one of my favorite films. It absolutely defies the bio-pic formula, and makes something different from the usual and expected. I loved the expressionistic look and feel of the film, and the cinematography serves it well. Willem Dafoe was amazing, and should have won the Oscar that year. Your review is well-done and insightful - thank you!
