I recommend mounting the catalytic heater on the truck bed wall between the bed and the propane tank. Then I would replace the rubber hose to the propane tank with a short copper tube with an inline adjustable shut off valve to the heater. Then I would seal the cabinet around the propane tank and drill a hole in the bottom of the truck bed in the cabinet so that if there is a leak most of the propane will drain out.

Thanks for the tutorial! QQ - does this also drain your battery since the light is powered directly to the battery? I wired mine up exactly how you did yours but my 4Runner had trouble starting the next morning,( no, I did not have the light on all night lol)

No, the light shouldn’t drain your battery if you installed it correctly. The light wont drain any power unless you have the light on or the switch light on and depending on the switch it shouldn’t drain a lot. Check your switch with everything off, is there a light on? If there isn’t, you may have a weak battery. If there is a light on the switch, change the switch. The switch that comes with the light isn’t the greatest quality, it’s junk but works. When I bought my current 4Runner, the previous owner didn’t install the correct battery and mine had slight starting issues because the cold cranking amps weren’t correct. It’s also getting colder, that affects batteries. Sorry you’re having issues. You can have your battery tested at any auto parts store or mechanic. Load test the battery. Hope this helps.

@ thank you for the explanation! I think it just might be my battery is weak since it’s 3-4 years old already. I just bought the runner 3 months ago so I think I’ll just change the battery first. Also, do you know if there is an easy way to have the switch powered only when the key is in the ignition? Thanks again!

Yeah, no problem. Batteries can last a good while but some brands cant. There should be a date stamp on the battery to let you know when it was made. You can install the light on ignition wire, you just have to do some testing to find an ignition wire/fuse with a multimeter to test what’s switched and what isn’t and what pulls the right amps to run the light without damage to the light/vehicle. The way I installed it though, you shouldn’t have any issues if you just leave it off when the vehicle isn’t running. Either option is fine though if everything is installed correctly and working properly, ie the battery.

Hey! Yeah no problem, I hope I helped you! No, it doesn’t drain the battery at all. These kits are pretty simple and are dummy proof. The older remote start kits that you had to install wire by wire, yes, you could easily wire it wrong if you didn’t know what you were doing and cause a drain or worse.

I really liked 12voltsolutions remote starts. It got pricey so I found an alternative. This kit is pretty good too. I haven’t had any issues installing it in a RAV4 or 4Runner.

I thought about doing it, but didn’t want it to be too bright and the factory light is nice and dim. I’m sure someone changed the cup holder light here on KZbin. But I hope I helped.
