You do need people to find exploits. The problem isn't finding the exploit. It's abusing it to break the game to your advantage. If you find exploits and report them without abusing them, you're A-OK.

My guess, this is more of a message and warning. We all know that most of the people who are bad actors will not stop. Maybe for a few days or whatever short amount of time but will eventually resort to their usual bad behaviour. I think Intrepid is setting themselves up for future actions. If bad behaviour starts to arise again, I am sure it will rain a lot more perma bans. And Intrepid will say that they have warned everyone repeatedly and gave plenty of chances to change. Next time judgement day comes it will be more severe. That's what I would do.

I think you are completely overestimating every game qa team on the planet. Competitive people find exploits, not 9-5 ers. Especially when your not incentivized to find more work for your co-workers. Human psychology actually will make you test less.. subconsciously and you cant really blame people. Exploits are always found by people with 100% incentive to cheat. If you consider yourself a tester then you have to realize server stability, aka the fun of the player base is second to the overall health of the game.. and a big part of that is how many bugs can be fixed, with arguably the worst of those bugs being exploits.

My main response to this has been simple - throw all the repeat exploiters into PTR, whenever it's on. Full permaban from the main client, but full access to the PTR when that's operating. They get to exploit the game to the best of their abilities, but their exploits don't impact the general population that's supposed to test big scale stuff.

Ever now and then I check in to the Star Citizen of MMO land's news and it never fails to make me laugh.

Back in the day you had hackers... You had what was referred to as the black het hackers and the white hat hackers--- you hired the white hat and jailed the black hats when caught. This worked. If they cannot report and only abuse an exploit - BAN THEM -- there are white hats out there doing good work. Get rid of the garbage gamers !!!

Toxic chatters got a permaban while REPEAT exploiters for 5 days. 5 days is the same as no punishment at all. 5 days is a "punishment" worthy of the 1st time exploiters. This "hammer" is made of a marshmallow. It's a very bad look for Intrepid. Exploiters are free to do what they will at this point. Ashes is now officially Pay To Win since PI players have been given the green light to do what they want.

There is always going to be cheaters. Ban these people. No mercy. The notion that we should not ban all of them to find exploits is more hurtful in the long run. Intrepid should be known as the no nonsense company that vaporizes you the moment cheating takes place.

Ahhh, I made a character on this server not knowing all this. Was wondering why I kept getting DC'd every few min. Back to Lyneth! Also I'm not keen on trying to play on a server full of big streamers and their fans. I prefer a more chill place.

Wanted to say HUGE Intrepid W for not more than an hour after this video and thumbnail came out that there was this response from Steven in the main Ashes of Creation discord: "Glorious tesers, There is currently a known issue with event rewards. The intended mechanic, is that players are rewarded with exp/items predicated on their participation. Currently, events are bugged and awarding exp without checking participation. This is resulting in people going AFK in those events in an effort to exploit this bug. **Please be aware**, if you participate in an event and get exp, we can see that. If you are afk in an event and get exp, we can filter for that as well. If it happens every now and then, it is what it is, but when we run a search and see some characters have 30% of their total gained exp by an event where they have no participation... that is exploiting. Do not participate in this, as it will not end well for your character. We are investigating the connection failures, and mob/resource spawning issues. It appears the connection drops are happening closer to Lionhold and Samias hope, so try to limit your time in those places. I will keep you updated on progress today. TY for your patience and participation in helping us test Ashes during this Alpha! ❤️"
