I just bought a knitting belt like the Shetland knitters use. It takes some getting used to but you can really increase your speed by having that needle held for you in the belt. Some English knitters use a 'sheath' made of wood, leather etc., either way, the right needle is held for you so you can just flick the yarn and crank on.

You didn’t actually do English style, you should only flick with your right index finger! Your thumb shouldn’t leave the needle. 🇬🇧

This is such great info for me as a beginner knitter who wants to stick with plant-based fibres. Thank you! I’m saving this is a playlist to come back to once I start considering making my first garment.

beautiful knit, flicking is tricky but it is magic to watch some one do it I must try it again.

The braided join is new to me and perfect for my project, a wrap that’s stockinette, but a little airy, so a thicker join might destroy the appearance of the wrap. Does Russian join ever work for linen or cotton?

Do you have or recommend a continental or flicking tutorial?!

Isn't it kind of funny how the style meant to help knitter's speed things up for efficiency actually forces you to slow down and knit more thoughtfully (less automatically compared to the style you're used to) in order to learn it. I keep trying but I'm still struggling with the Irish Cottage style. I'm using circs though.

I’m currently gathering my wits and courage to steek down my Amaryllis pieces-the sweater turned out perfectly as a size L, but I have since lost weight and need a size M 🥲 It was a helpful reminder to see your Chestnut, since it’s almost like a pre-planned version of what I’m doing :)

You’ve got this!! Bummer about the sizing, but it’ll definitely still be cute as a slightly oversized layering piece 😍

Excellent information. Thank you. I am working with a chainette construction yarn so will be using the one where you thread the ends into each other. Hadn't seen that one before.

I 100% agree on that fabric - it's one of my favorites. For the Q&A: what color do you feel like you never get enough of in your wardrobe? Alternatively, what color do you need more of in your wardrobe?

It’s so funny that you said you drove through Albany during rush hour and the traffic wasn’t bad. I lived in Albany from fall 2020 to Sept 2022 and I was so confused as to where everybody was! I couldn’t tell if it was because of the pandemic or because there isn’t a huge population or if it’s because Albany is very spread out…? I still don’t know.

For the mohair short sleeve shown….. are you able to say what the stitch pattern is for that garment? I saw one very similar but it is called the open shell stitch and it is crochet. Thank you I look forward to all your episodes - I have just picked up at the needles again at 67, and only have ventured lace at this point and small patches of it - as I have a hard time trying to fix any problems that may arise - 9 garments in and still doing DK, but I have ordered some yak/silk and want to attempt a short sleeve similar to the one you have shown - Regards from Georgia in BC

Hi Mel I was shown this stile at 15 when I was catching the old rattler trains. I was dropping stitches and some older ladies showed me this way. The difference is use I put my thumb under the needle with my middle finger doing the throwing over the needle to form the stitch. And I'm a super fast knitter. So I'm 64 now and still knit all sorts of things. Yet always learning ❤

Mel, if one is in Manhattan, the bookstore Kinokuniya has a large selection of Japanese knitting magazines in their basement area which is great for the person who wants to see them in person. Oddly, they don’t carry Amirisu.

I watched this video because I have had problems with plant based yarns, and I wanted to check your lessons learned. But I am commenting because I was so happy to watch you knitting English style. Almost every other knitting video I watch is continental style, and there seems to be a silent preference to continental.

I love the Japanese aesthetic, but i think I would have to gird my loins, as it were, approaching any pattern that's only in Japanese. More power to you for taking on the challenge! Your intarsia sweater looks beautiful, and I enjoy watching your process.

I only knit, (I'm 23) but I would like to know how to crochet as well. Crafting is actually not very common in my family, my grandmother knows basic knit stitches, but no crochet. I do have a great aunt that crochets, but she only makes blankets, my cousin knows crochet-not knitting. I do think in the past it was more common to learn both, and I find a lot of crafters these days specialize in one without knowing the other.

Beautiful job on your Hypnosis. I moonlight at an LYS, and a coworker referred me to your channel after I told her I bought that Japanese Rowan book. Hypnosis is one of the projects I plan to make. Your FO is making me want to move it up my queue. I also wanted to give you a brief confirmation on your undergarment thoughts. I used to have a STUNNING Alexander McQueen dress shirt made of a very diaphanous cotton batiste. I wore a Hanes undershirt with the cut off sleeves under it, and it looked great.

Hello, Wow- the Hypnosis sweater is so gorgeous. Its such an eye catchy sweater. Like a work of art. The creator should make an effort to size this pattern for multiple body sizes as I believe she would sell a boatload to knitters. I know I would purchase it if it had my size. It could quite possibly take over the popularity of the Ranunculas sweater!!!! Cudos to you for taking on the challenge and figuring out how to adapt it for you. I would wear it with black yoga pants that were shorter above the ankle with a calf hugging fit. No baggy pants with it. If a skirt, a black figure hugging knit skirt that is mid calf. You don't want anything to distract from that walking painting!!!!!!!!! Carrie from Northern CA Bay Area 😘🖖❤🐶🐑☕🧵🪡🧶

Hello Melissa! I'm quite late watching and commenting but I'm in the middle of an international move and I wanted to wait until I had the brain space to enjoy a new video. I love your caspar top. I've definitely been considering making a tunic version of either to top or the camisole. I also have some RK yarn-dyed linen that you've inspired me to break out again once the move is done. For questions, I'd love to know more about where you find your inspiration for projects from, both for what to make and for colors, yarns, etc. For myself, I only rarely find myself inspired by RTW or other people finished garments and more often I'm inspired by abstract things or everyday objects so I'm curious how this process works for you.
