I've been patiently waiting to see this video pop up! First of all....I could never pull your outfit off. My age prohibits me from having that much gusto in what I'd wear, but boy oh boy is that ever awesome! I definitely have to check out a trip to Montreal. I'm in Providence, RI so I'm not sure of the distance but I'm not afraid of a road trip for a long weekend and that place just looks so cool. Great video. Great work. And great buys!

Incredibly lovely shares and footage of the festival, thank you! There’s a shot of a BRIGHT pink Misurina… umm wow. And I’m not even a pink person. I don’t think... I’m having a colour identity crisis right now. Lol. Wish I would’ve got to meet you and enjoy a meal at the fancy food court. Your yarn choices are soooo good!

Right?! That Misurina was just as incredible in person too! Such a bummer that we didn’t get to meet up - hopefully at some other festival soon ❤️

I just discovered your channel and it's amazing! I started with this "reveal" episode, but this weekend I went back and have been binge watching from the beginning! I can't believe all the wonderful, juicy tips you give us and so much valuable, slow, attention-to-detail work that you do. Really big thanks. Your vest is incredible!

Wow that vest is just amazing. The pants too. As a Montrealer I laughed when you mentioned the ‘city’ vibe of the knitwear. It’s so true. Your outfit was perfect. I wish I would have made it to the festival to say hi in person. I’m a big fan. Looking forward to your next episodes!

(just watched the KCM half) so glad to hear there was lots of non-superwash there! i might make more of an effort to go next year (and drag some locals knitting friends along)--we could take the train for a nice day trip. some of us have similarly good overnights at the Adirondack Wool & Arts thing in Greenwich, NY. :-)

The fit of your finished vest is so nice! I absolutely love Montreal. I am actually headed there for a birthday trip next week There is some very good fabric shopping in the garment district (Globetex is probably my favorite, a good place to find a bargain) and if you enjoy Middle Eastern food, I can not recommend Byblos Cafe enough (it's pretty close by Rix Rax)

Wow, just wow! The pants are totally not my style,but still amazing how they coordinate with the amazing vest you created! I’m so impressed with your skills, and creativity! And how you combined skills from different crafts, and print resources, KZbin resources, etc. And what a good understanding you have of your own body and how that affects your making. Kudos to you!

Your vest is AMAZING! My DH and I watched your previous episode and when you picked out the floral motif all we could see was a man with a beard ;). I love how you incorporated all of the little details that have made it such a beautiful unique garment that is so finished, fits so well, and is so polished. I did enjoy hearing about the modifications you made to the pants pattern to make them exactly as you wanted. Glad you had such a fantastic time at Knit City and was able to experience yarn dyers and their products that you haven't had exposure to yet.

omg!!! such a great vudei! i looved seeing you guys together. loooved seeing 'part 2'. thanks so much for your video. so i only do summer knitting as i live in a tropical climate. i wonder if your version of steeking would work with plant fibers. that would be super cool if it did. also super helpful and impressive finishing on your vest. i loved the crochet cord idea and will use it and the kititng a few rounds and sewing, all great.

Mel. You do such beautiful knitting and sewing and doing your podcasts. I follow all of them. I do have a question if you do questions. I notice you steek for armholes and I’ve tried to find a demo that I can understand. Can you please either do a video about that or give me a suggestion where to find a good demo. Thanks for sharing your skills and talents.
@melmakesstuff
@melmakesstuff Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! I’m considering developing a steek class where I would show how to do the armholes, but in the meantime I’d suggest you look for a recently-written set-in sleeve colorwork pattern that incorporates sleeve steeks (Vair by Gudrun Johnston comes to mind) and take a look at how it’s written. You basically want to insert the steek on the next round after binding off for the underarm, and then you do your armhole shaping next to the steek on subsequent rounds.

Thank you for sharing your finishing technique of picking up stitches, knitting a little bit in stockinette, and folding it over! I guess I never realized that the edge could be so narrow. I’ve been thinking about making a mostly-stockinette cardigan with i-cord edging along the fronts and neckline, but I wasn’t sure if that would be enough to keep the stockinette from curling. Do you think your technique would do a better job at that, and also give better structure?
@melmakesstuff
@melmakesstuff Жыл бұрын
My instinct says that it would depend on your gauge, like it might work a bit better at a tighter gauge? But I would suggest you test it out on the side of your swatch, that should give you a good idea of whether it might work. Good luck!

Hi Mel, I just wanted to tell you how much I appreciated watching and learning from your outfit creation, your adventurous craftiness is very inspiring and impresses me. I have a question, well two questions. I have seen a lot of steeking but have never attempted it myself, not out of fear but I just haven’t had a pattern to use it in, my question is one of curiosity, why, in this particular instance did you choose to steek rather than knit the fair isle flat? I ask this because in my very very limited experience in knitting colour work flat, i.e., a couple of small swatches, I quite like it, but I hear others don't like it and prefer to steek. Is this why you steeked or are there other benefits I’m not understanding? My other question is would you consider doing a tutorial on the irish crochet lace cord? I found that technique you employed fascinating and love the results it produced on the edges of the vest. Congratulations on producing such an original and beautiful knit. Cheers, Tara
@melmakesstuff
@melmakesstuff Жыл бұрын
Thanks Tara! I have knitted colorwork flat, and I don’t really mind it, but I just find that I enjoy the process more when I can knit in the round. I also like the magic of steeking at the end ☺️

Bit of a personal question, but when you wear pure wool so close to your skin like with your vest, what type of deodorant do you wear? I always worry about getting it on wool and not being able to get it back out.
