I have the amp and the DM-14, I want the Bulletini but have no interest in the 520DX. Once again I'm hearing a low fat sound on the Bulletini and a much brighter sound on the DX.

Comparing to Aiwa, Bulletini is really bassy mic, which gives you strong, compressed, crunchy sound. DX is my temporary Shure mic (I'm expecting a good one CM/CR for future).

Howdy! What amp and harp do you think Alan Wilson used on the recording "Mean Old World" a great cover by canned heat. I can put a link if needed, much appreciated, you have the best informational videos that show this old style of harp playing, haven't found many people nowadays that use the style, everyone I've come across that are into harmonica are either into Billy Joel or Bob Dylan, not saying there bad but they no Bob Hite or little Walter haha.

I know this might be a bit late prior to all the comments here but, I have a pretty tough decision to make here. I have 3 pianos that are basically the same but I’ve heard all types of things about them. The Yamaha ydp-145 which from my understanding has a really good grand piano sound, the Roland RP107 which has the most grand piano like feeling (although it might be too heavy, not sure on that) and this Kawai CN29 which is the perfect balance. This Kawai is usually 2.3-2.6k but it dropped down to 1.3k. The problem I have with the Kawai is that people are saying it sounds a bit different from an acoustic/grand piano but sounds good in its own way. Sorry for the long comment but I’d be happy with any response. Thanks!

Tube and speaker swap will do wonders for that amp. 5751 or 12ay7, and a smooth cone alnico will fatten it up by a lot. It’s a bit shrill as is. Good for cutting thru a mix I suppose.
@rychubil
@rychubil 6 ай бұрын
I had this amp very short time. I only swapped for a moment tubes for 2 JJs - 12AY7 and 12AU7, which gave less feedback and bit more crunchy tone. I didn't have time for swaping a speaker but I heard CUB-10 Friend of mine with Jensen Ceramic and was a bit improvement.
@norfolknwhey4787
@norfolknwhey4787 6 ай бұрын
@@rychubil oh gotcha. I spent quite a while working on small wattage amps for harp, and found smooth cones to be ideal for that controllable break-up and thick tone. The ceramic’s definitely improve headroom, but don’t have the same timbre as an alnico/smooth combo. I do really like them for 15W+, especially in a live setting. You sound great already, just thought I’d share my experience with the small wattage amps.
@rychubil
@rychubil 6 ай бұрын
@@norfolknwhey4787 that's true, smooth cones sounds the best for harmonica. I had 8" Weber ceramic smooth in Harley Benton Tube5, it was big improvement against ribbed cones of Celestion and Jensen. Now I have 10" Jensen Alnico P10Q in Harp Train 10 but I prefer stock speaker of Lone Wolf (also smooth cone but not Alnico).

I’m using this and getting some of the best tone i ever had direct. The trick is you have to use the gain very carefully a little bit at a time.
