This is a comparison of two 5" speakers - Pignose original versus Jensen MOD 5/30, made on an original, old (made in 70'), american (red label) Pignose 7-100, solid state amplifier, serial nr 12299. For this purpose I used 10 hole diatonic harmonica "Hohner Marine Band Deluxe" in key of A and "Aiwa DM-14" dynamic microphone.
Recording was made by: microphone "Shure SM57", distanced 3cm from speakers.
Both amplifiers were powered by Boss PSA230ES, 9V noise isolated power supply.

Wow indeed the original is way better, warmer and fuller, that jensen sound so mid heavy, so honky, nasal, maybe help to cut trough the mix on live applications, have some charm with the harmonica, but remind me a kazoo texture kond of a thing 😂, great comparison

If you change the voltage from 9 to 6 volts that totally transforms the sound more than any speaker change.

So, I've tested on 6V and even on 3V (non isolated power supply) - any changes in quality of sound, just less buzzing coming from power supply. Lower voltage also is giving less power in the speaker, then my conclusion - higher voltage is giving stronger and fatter sound. Normally I use 9V isolated power supply which is the best solution IMO.

Hmm maybe it's just a quirk of my pignise? Certainly the power is lower as you'd expect but the sound is killer. Do you have an eq? If you do put that after the mic and boost everything below 1000hz and kill everything above.

I just subscribed to your page. I think i like the original better. Something a little more spooky about it.
