Yes, "everybody expects it" is a good reason not to. Gil could've refuted Anne's assertion that he only wanted someone to hang off his arm, etc. That wasn't true at all. Gil only ever wanted an equal.

I love this version! This is my fav Anne and Gil. I watched this series with the women in my family all while I was growing up. Mr Darcy and Gilbert Blythe were the cutest and coolest.

I love that she found him but also in the make up of her looking sick, worried, tired ect because loosing a loved one or thinking you have in anyway can do that to you regardless of your actual age. It added a sense of real to it.

Yeah, she's a perfect case of not realising that she is in love with him. Some do that. Others just know right away. Great adaption of the books. My favourite version.

Loves her like it’s breathing… So beautiful and so true! And again, he’s so much like my husband while I’m so much like Anne… I related to her so much as a girl, growing up, reading the books, watching these movies, wanting a man like Gilbert but never believing I’d find him or that he’d truly want me… But he did! Not in spite of my perceived flaws but because of who I was as a person. He promised to love me and stay by my side, no matter what! He has kept that promise for over 12 years and I’m the luckiest woman alive! Didn’t truly believe in soulmates til my soul met his and literally altered me forever. We weren’t naive, we’d been through stuff but while he was sure sooner than me, it didn’t take either of us long to know without a doubt that we’d found our person… We knew what being with the wrong one felt like and to suddenly feel with every fiber of your being that you’re with the right one, even when you’re angry with them, even when they make mistakes… That certainty that they’ll never leave, that they’ll be by your side as long as they live is priceless!

I remember when Jonathan passed (eerie that he died of an aneurysm, which also had killed her father years before - aneurysms are fairly rare and may have a genetic component, and I can’t even imagine this family’s suffering). His family was truly overwhelmed and deeply moved by the incredible outpouring of love and sorrow for Jonathan as they didn’t fully realize how fiercely all of us love the OG Anne and Gilbert. His family was deeply touched, which is imho truly beautiful. It was incredibly moving for them to see how many adored Jonathan and always adored him as the *true* Gilbert. RIP dear Jonathan, and thank you and Megan for leading me through one of the worst times of my life as a depressed very young preteen whose parents fought, insanely, during a miserable divorce. Thank you for your gift Jonathan and family!!

For some reason I want to hear “Hello from the Other Side” for this montage (these two == soulmates) but it’s still lovely so thank you so very much!! We will always love the true Anne with an “E” and the beloved, wonderful, sensitive and insightful, brilliant, wry, and perfectly handsome Gilbert - who sets his sight on his firecracker “Carrots” and never looked back. As Marilla once beautifully put it, Anne made Gilbert light up in a way that none of the other girls ever would or ever could. I’m still haunted by the news delivered to Anne: “did you know Gilbert Blythe is dying” - and how Anne knew then - a bolt from the blue - that she loved her best friend and brilliant competitor and lifelong teaser (Anne’s first day of school and “Carrots!” Lmao), and that there was no more time to waste. Jonathan, RIP sir, you will always be the best and truest Gilbert, and Megan with her adorable button nose and hilarious stubbornly raised chin will always embody the perfect Anne. Love them forever!!! Anne and Gilbert helped me through life when I was crippled by crushing depression and my parents’ miserable divorce - thank you again OP for this lovely video!!
