Batchhproof are hit or miss. I won a WF HBEP and reviews were really good but man. I’m regretting the $145 I dropped for that. Same w OF BiB 10y, man what a disappointing pour that was.

Why are people still paying $160 + tax for a higher proof $40 shelf bottle?

This is $149 in Virginia. It's top 3 on my list for the year. Pretty surprised you didn't enjoy it.

Overpriced yes, but I still think it's a delicious pour. And it's crazy that you can get two JDSBBS for less than the price of one Woodford batch proof...both Brown Forman products.

I bought a regular bottle of Woodford to try it out for the first time. It had a good nose but the palet had a horrible bitter after taste. I just haven't been able to get myself to buy another Woodford.

When a brand as big as woodford charges so much for a high proof bourbon when so many other brands have bottles just as good for much cheaper, you know something is up

The new label of rare breed isn’t as good as the old one. And I’m usually aggravated by folks who say things like that. But I’ve blinded it and it’s a glaring difference. The new one is nutty like Jim beam, peanut shells. Where the old one has some nutty flavors to it but I always get pecan more than peanut.

if it makes you feel any better, for the first time in my entire life and whiskey buying/drinking addiction, i saw a batch of the 2024 WR-BP on the shelf @ retail… i grabbed the bottle, held the bottle for a long minute in my clammy fist, and then felt inspired to google WR-BP’24 and… then put it back on the shelf reluctantly. (on the advice of www reviews that said it was … underwhelming.) i’m tired of wasting money on whiskey i don’t enjoy, and well, just glad i dodged one bullet. but there will be others… we’re all suckers for something.

More importantly, is your name really Matt? or are you really just an AI, shilling for woodford bp in an upside down world where AI has an opinion or profit motive around things they can’t yet sense or enjoy?

That is a fantastic skirmish. Case closed, I am happy I skipped both bottles. More money for BK batches that I know will be worth it.

I realized a while ago that my opinion on a whiskey can change from day to day, week to week. Whether it's me, what I've recently eaten, or the whiskey itself...who knows? So I just roll with it, judging whiskeys over the course of a bottle, rather than any single pour. For example, I'm slowly working through a bottle of the Angel's Envy Cask Strength 2022. It varies from 'good, but not worth the price' to 'so good, it makes me want to cry because I'll never find another bottle'.

I'm guessing the 118.4 was sitting around for awhile...and it was almost empty. Lots o' oxygen. Perhaps a newly opened 118.4 would fair better.

Batchproof is so hit or miss it's annoying. It's also annoying that they don't do multiple batches per year.

I love the 2024 WRBP. I love the flavor profile that I get and the long finish. Even though I love it I don’t think it’s a $160 plus whiskey and I didn’t pay that much for mine. I purchased mine at my local Costco with tax for $115.

You got ripped off on the purchase price of the Woodford, $129 in my neck of the woods. I am enjoying my bottle, but it prefers time for the nose to develop. TBH, I didn't score a 2023 bottle. Shit is a good word, my Mother In Laws favorite.

Here's my theory: the woodford BP bottle/cork does not provide a good seal. When I opened my 2023 124.7 I was over the moon with it and went back to the store to buy a backup (I was unsuccesful). But then as it sat on my shelf for a few months, every time I went back to it the initial syrupy deliciousness waned into a funky, sharp experience that wasn't terribly pleasant. I never tried the 118.4 so I don't have a comparison point, but you remembering liking it and then it tasting almost spoiled now is unsurprising given my experience with the 124.7. Thusfar, I agree that the 121.2 has been underwhelming for the price and as I work through the bottle it certainly isn't getting better.

I have to agree Matt, I have the 2019, 2021, 2023, and 2024 Batch Proof releases and 2024 was the most disappointing of the bunch...and by a pretty fair margin too. I think the 118.4 is 2022 as I don't have that one.
