Good job replacing the reverse lever, that's good you'll be able to adjust it now. Interesting the other one broke and had to be welded, I guess there's a stress point there. Hopefully it won't be too expensive to have the brake rebuilt.

It is an interesting design and it has a weak sound to the arm movement. I do not know if this has a bearing spring or not, but by the operation it appears it does not. I would take the bearing assembly off and add an o-ring to the bottom of the nipple, and make a spring for the top of the bearing to add that little extra pressure to the bearing sleeve to help it move through the cycle on its own. So far my experience with spoon arms on a Royal Coach/Buckner design is not good in my mind and through my experience as well. I know a little of what I would do to help it like I did years ago on the Rain Bird Backbird arms to improve the movement and operation. It worked too. Thank you for sharing this one with us.

it seems to stop rotating about halfway through its arc. Also with the bent body and leak it has in the bearing it doesnt help matters either. I had to help it after that as it would get stuck and not rotate. It is possible the spoon was bent as well. I got this as is on ebay long ago. This was way before I got my pump and stand setup. This would have ran well off my pump as it would have had more force to move forward. I should have tried to plug the spreader port or try a smaller drive nozzle t o increase the pressure.

It needs a rebuild. The reverse mechanism is loose and with every arm stroke it almost drops into the stream. I need to get the spring that keeps it out of there replaced, or take it in and have someone go through it and rebuild it. Problem is no RB parts are available anywhere. I'd probably have to find a working gun that has been decomissioned.
@NelsonBigGunP200Fan
@NelsonBigGunP200Fan 21 күн бұрын
When i shut the one pump off, it still ran and reversed but not enough force to propel the gun back the rest of the way, while the arm was stroking, that was enough of a jolt to the reverse mechanism to be pulled back out with each arm stroke. I was wondering if it was gonna be able to get out of that state by itself. I saw a P200 do this also, it wasnt enough pressure or anything. Evidently from sitting i'm guessing the bearings and joints in the reverse mechanism must';ve been bound up and needed moved around to work free (this works well too with using 2 wrenches to loosen up a stuck gun (did to my Rainbird SR)). When it reversed it kicked teh gun back and got to the beginning but for some reason the mechanism was bound up so it couldn't pull the reverse spoon out of the stream so it could go forward. The farmer had to come out with a shovel and disengage reverse (using it to push the reverse trip cam back out) once that was done the gun went forward. It reversed fine after that, no issues.

at certain points due to the high pressure it double-tapped. And its quite prominent at certain positions of its arc. Oh yeah these are meant to put out some water at a long distance. You technically need a PTO or electric (480v) pump to run one of these. However since it has a smaller range nozzle it runs on 2 pumps in series. I believe the bearing and sleeve are worn out in this and need replaced, but unless i can get this off the 3x2 reducer it cant be rebuilt.

It may be my 2 smaller pumps not giving it enough pressure or flow. But i kind of got lucky with this due to its smaller range nozzle on the range tube. It runs pretty good, even I was suprised. There is another one at the dealer on a gun tripod and it has 3 nozzles (spreader is installed) and i believe the rear range nozzle is bigger than this and the tube is longer. Makes me wonder how well that one will work on my setup. I'd have to ask how much for it and see if it can be taken off the stand as well. It may be siezed on, which i'd have to have the cut pipe threaded like this one. They also have a 205A Fast-Reverse Rain gun there (rainbird) which is almost identical to my 205G (different stops and reverse trip) but its missing a nozzle and I do not have all of the ring nozzle assembly (i need the cap). One day i will find one for this and I will try the fender washer trick that i did for my P200 to get it to run on my setup. These are really cool, but what is even cooler is the Buckner 890. Those I have seen some big range nozzles on, almost like a .90" or 1.00" taper bore on a big gun. Those will need sleeved for good operation. Also the ones i seen, had some very long range tubes. The rear nozzle looks like a taper bore nozzle for a Nelson 100 gun. I am still looking for this though. I'll find one eventually. The Buckner 890 is way cooler than the 100B due to it's body and arm design and the bigger nozzles and range tubes. I'll let you know if i ever locate one. Even if i have to sleeve the range nozzle to reduce it I will get it running on my setup.

Great job Chris!!! Usually when you have a slow reverse on brass impacts is the gap between the arm and the trip is too close due to the trip being bent in, you can also speed up the reverse due to age is carefully closing that gap slightly. In this sprinklers case with plastic trips there is not much you can do except arm tension if the spring tension is loose, and the gap is too close this is what happens.

Thinking its gonna need a bearing clean and maybe replacement. It's forward is fine but reverse is real slow. Probably just old age wearing out the bearing on it. I'm not fully sure but i believe this may have the brass bearing on it instead of plastic. Also there is the P4-PJ-TNT (I think), that is newer than this that is in the 15105C. Longer life bearing on that i believe. Also i think these older ones the bearing is removeable, and the bearing sleeve and washers. The newer models were molded into the body so if that went bad you were replacing the head.

I do not know for sure, but this looks like a newer design body and trip mechanism with brass arm that was used or put into this model. The trip mechanism and arc stops are using a newer design that comes from the original BlackBird PJ model. It appears that the bearing and nipple are in need of attention, possibly. I do not know for sure as I am going by the parts I have and what I have put back together. With most of those models in parts, It would be basically easy enough to put together one like that. Most of those BlackBird models are all disassembled. I would love to see history on these Rain Birds. I might have expected the return to be faster, but it ran consistently. It is one I would love to play with. Thank you for sharing it.

Yes it looked like a newer hybrid blackbird as it has a different design of body and and trip collars and the brass arm. This one actually has both ways to adjust the distance and the stream diffusion. I liked these better than the SK-15 i have. I had many of these as a kid and they were great sprinklers. I do think yes, the bearing does need attention as there is spots in reverse where it gets slower and others it speeds up. I believe the washers and seals just need replaced, or the bearing sleeve may be binding on the bearing itself. But for getting on eBay it works decent otherwise, the sprinkler itself is in great shape and the brass arm looks new. I have just liked this design better, and I do have a P4-PJ that has the same trip collars and diffuser pin. I just like having the trip collars where they were metal rather than plastic. I liked the spike its attached to as its one you step on to get in the ground. I used that a lot when i was younger. I may even use it to test some 1/2" sprinklers, as my 3/4" stand is 3/4". When I had mine as a kid it was new, no missing or faded paint. Thanks for watching. I do have an idea now of putting this head inside a 15111 internal. IT would be like a 15111/15106 hybrid.

The ones in the field however are much more awesome to watch work, because of their high pressure and output. I wish i had such a pump! These do have a much slower arm stroke rate than the smaller guns do. I am not sure if you seen one up close, the size of the P200 is just massive. The drive arm is almost the whole length of the gun's barrel. It's heavy too, definitley has some weight to it. My P200 if i had to guess is like 65-70 pounds, you have to hold it with 2 hands, one on the drive arm (so it doesnt slam back and pinch your fingers, and the other to hold it by the barrel. If you keep that arm from moving you wont hurt your hand from the small space between it and the guns barrel, also the counterweight is heavy as well so you got to watch that as well. I've pinched my hand so many times from it. It hurts!

it does! It however felt like almost shooting right over my head due to the super quick reverse! It went way past its stop though. Even after tightening up the brake tension. With this small nozzle (.50" taper bore) the reverse speed needs to be set on "fast". Otherwise i tried "slow" and the reverse arm didn't end up in the stream as far as it needed to to kick it back. It was spraying to the side but not enough kinetic energy was created due to the small nozzle. When I first got this, It had a .70" taper bore and the reverse speed adjustment was set on "slow" I put it on "fast" and i don't think i changed it again until a few videos ago, and this one. The small nozzle doesn't create enough of a wide stream to pull that lever up to reverse it back. I'd say it gets about half way and stops because the bolt is already pushed up against the body, not letting it go any further. If i get a bigger nozzle on it and put it back to slow i bet it'll whip back much slower and not jump its left stop so much. When that reverse lever is pulled out of the stream, depending on the force left over and the brake tension, the gun can glide past its left stop and go back farther than intended. Even after it has been pulled out. I assume there's too much residual force propelling the gun back so it keeps going until it's been used up, so to speak. If you keep that reverse lever from going too far it should cut down on the force created and the gun should kick back slower. I'm still learning on these guns. I should make a video on how to adjust the reverse linkage and etc. My P200 was set to "slow" because of the 1.56" nozzle it had. I adjusted it to "fast" because i was using less than ideal conditions to run it (lower PSI and output due to 2 small pumps in series). I also moved the drive spoon into the stream more to create more force to get it moving faster going forward. Its the same with all the FR guns, you can adjust the lever to go in the stream more if you're dealing with lower pressure and out of the stream if you're dealing with higher pressure. I believe it just adjusts how much spray is created from the reverse lever , which propels it back. That's another thing, the reverse lever on these FR guns (or spoon as they call it) Also creates a finer spray in front of the gun like a spreader nozzle for close in coverage, but just in reverse, think of it like your 65C and D models with that wire clip, same just a clip instead of a metal lever. The SR guns made now do move the same speed in both directions, think of it like a Rocker jet, it moves the whole drive arm to hit the other side of a drive vane to move it back. So more water gets put down.

This is how I can always tell It's a P200/F200 big gun. They have a much slower arm stroke rate than a Nelson SR200/ Komet 202. I guess its because of the single drive arm, with it being longer and thinner.

I think the pump starting startled your camera, I can totally relate. This nozzle is no problem at all for your pump. I never get tired of watching these guys. Beautiful distribution of water.

The reverse setting for the linkage and reverse spoon is on "fast" i tried changing it back to "slow" but the deflector doesnt go all the way into the stream to engage reverse, rather it hangs about halfway through. I feel thats because of the small nozzle it has, there isnt enough leeway for the reverse deflector to engage fully. There's a bolt on the reverse arm that can control how far it goes into the stream, for bigger nozzles you want to keep it on slow. I believe that was the reason this reversed so quick and almost ended up over my head. It was close. I need to get a bigger nozzle installed on it and move the setting back to "slow" and see the difference.

Yes it has the smallest nozzle it can take right now, I'm thinking of upping it a notch, going to the .92/.95" ring nozzle. I think that may be the biggest it can take with my current pump setup.

The Nelson P150 works well with two pumps. It sure does reverse fast!

I got a .97" ring nozzle for it. I have to sort out the sticking brake issue though. Its been a problem ever since i got it.

Nice Nelson P200! It does run quite well on your set up. It gives a good demo of the Big Gun in operation.

It does. Works decent enough to go forward and reverse slowly. I wonder if I put the next size nozzle up I could find at the hardware store if it would still work ok
