Notice that the notes he sings on “why ain’t there one lonely horn” are pretty much the notes of a bugle. Clever.

@@billjim334 obviously neither of us can 'prove' our case because aesthetic judgement is subjective. From my perspective, Gram Parsons and Evan Dando/Juliana Hatfield were both capable of brilliant stuff. Personally, I prefer this version. Partly, honestly, I think it's because $1,000 Wedding is one of Gram's weaker songs, which makes it easier to top by covering. I'm not sure if I've heard a cover of "She" or "Sin City" that is better, for example.

"Take your power back or take the blame." And then they elected Obama and Trump, and would again even if the beauty of the world is destroyed. It's no accident that school shootings happen every month, and mass murder every day: DH Lawrence: "The essential American soil is hard, isolate, and a killer. It has never yet melted." H. Rap Brown: "Violence is part of America's culture. It is as American as cherry pie."

Artists are vastly important because they reimagine what it means to be human. They can look at the stars and see heroes and legends. They can look at stone and see grace and dignity. They look at the ineffable beauty of the world and memorialize it for the centuries.

Good that this is top and tailed by John Carpenter's soundtrack from Assualt on precinct 13. Surely the Get Carter soundtrack is by Roy Budd, and the Clash track should surely have been White man in Hammersmith Palais? And knew every street as well!
@DaveGurman3 жыл бұрын
Good call on Roy Budd, Graham, I blame the "Empire Elite - The Best Of The Best Modern Soundtracks" that lists Tyler Bates - who apparently provided the soundtrack for the 2000 Sly Stallone travesty - as the artist (the irony is that I have versions credited to Roy too). As for the Clash, I was at the Hogarth Roundabout by the time they took over and "London's Calling" suited the tempo better.
