Caffeine is also in most dark sodas and chocolate joker lol so you may have had smaller amounts of it and didn't notice it. The primary thing it does in the body is binds to adenosine receptors which get filled by adenosine causing you to get tired but the caffeine fits in that receptor and prevents the adenosine from binding to the receptor so you don't get more tired for a few hours. Consuming an excessive amount like 2 energy drinks (small amount for some who consume it often obviously) will give a boost to alertness and general energy but also increased heart rate. Sorry for the essay but as a caffeine fiend I've done a little too much reading on it lmao
