I’ve been a street cop for 18 years. Been in a lot of scraps on the street, in the bars, inside the jail, etc. Yes, some bad guys will be armed, however a lot of them are not. They’ll present a scenario where deadly force is not justified, but you have to go hands on. That’s where the wrestling and BJJ are so important. Being able to make decisions when your heart rate is redlining. Decisions that could have serious repercussions if you make the wrong one. When people train under stress, they make better decision under stress.

Not that this had to do with your video but is there a way to convince someone to do something like bjj. I get three responses when i suggest it. I dont want to get beat up, just buy a gun, or ur gay. Basically they think its an ego thing but i feel like if you get past ur insecurities its a great hobby
@DevilDogMartialArts-
@DevilDogMartialArts- 5 күн бұрын
Great question. I’ll do a video on this. 1. I don’t want to get beat up - just let them know that especially aa a beginner that it’s very safe and if you go to a good gym people are looking out for your safety. Also, compared with striking arts, you are less likely to get beat up, but learning how to relax in discomfort is a learned skill they will teach you. 2. Just buy a gun - owning a gun doesn’t teach you how to respond to critical situations and you are likely to freeze because you haven’t learned how. Also, with martial arts you can still buy a gun and be less likely to resort to it. Also doesn’t give you the social group or personal enrichment, and it’s more fun than lifting weights 3. I’ve never had a legitimate feeling of sexuality in BJJ. Not with female partners and not with men. You can ask them if you were to train with a woman, let’s say in closed guard, would you grab her boobs and dry hump her? Well why would it be different if I trained with a gay man. Also, maybe you need to address your insecurities. I am comfortable in my sexuality so it’s literally never been a concern

I think people who who carry should be a blue belt bjj level grappler at a minimum to keep someone from being able to wrestle your gun away. Plus you get cool deformed ears 😅

But yeah, you can’t give people enriched lives through martial arts if you don’t sign them up. As a business owner, head coach, and student I wear different hats. One of them does sales and marketing. One of them helps my students get the most out of their training. One of them continues my own journey. Regardless of which pov I discuss with them, I have 2 options with snarky people. I can create a further disconnect or I can bring them into the fold.

Hey coach. How would you break down striking theory and concepts and how would you recommend to study it before applying it in training? I like your kind of videos because they develop depth of knowledge not just a surface level glimpse into things. Where can I find striking theory to learn or how can I go about that? As opposed to 100 people trying to teach me a jab cross.

Strickland’s arms are seriously long af. And it’s not talked about enough. Pause and watch when they’re trading jabs. He’s lying about his 76” reach it’s more like Jon jones level. Definitely had more range than Izzy did. Don’t think I’ve seen a single fight where it looked like an opponent had a similar one. That’s how he gets away with a lot of the stuff he does. If you’re not as rangey as him you cant really pull his style off
