Links to the specific parts and just being realistic about how much they cost is much appreciated. Suggest avoiding inserting your opinion about if it's cheap or not, let us decide that ourselves. Instead, include relevant information (like how much a competing product from Raymarine costs). Should probably also mention when you use things that are not marine grade, and how much it matters for that specific item and how you are using it. M5 Stacks all inside? Will the ebook reader survive tropical climate? Internet is full of videos of things people built that don't actually work in the long run. Just be realistic if something is definitely marine grade and should last until the next refit, or if it isn't marine grade but you are using it in a way that it should still work. When you combine these two pieces of advice, you also sound really smart: "For 130€ mounting the ebook reader inside where it shouldn't get wet or have moisture buildup it will hopefully last a long time vs a 610€ Raymarine i70s display." Really specific information too early can be confusing. Keep things more general until you are ready to explain how the really specific detail fits into the larger picture. (ex: 6 M5 stacks? Why so many? For what? Where? How? They won't all fit on that panel along with 2 other screens. We have more questions than answers. Just say ~"some M5 stacks"). In a conversation, you would get feedback allowing you to adjust the level of detail and/or explain things as you go, but in a monologue you need to be a little more deliberate. Label the links (worst offender is the "shorturl" link, but you wouldn't even need a short URL if was a list of names followed by a link) openplotter link is broken (typo) add link for the fuse box remove link and mentions of Navionics (they aren't in this video. And it's confusing why you specifically tell us you have a backup nav software and then say you don't recommend it.) remove mentions and links for Samsung products (again, not in this video, and kind of confusing. Is "android phone for screen casting" what you are trying to tell us? ) The M5 stacks and the 16" screen are actually not in this video, but they should have been. If you edit the picture of the cabinet door so that it shows the planned layout with the 16" screen, M5s, e-ink etc. you can really really tie it all together. Should be a quick edit and repost. Good luck! Do you have any requests for information from US? I have experience with Moitessier2 HAT, MacArthur HAT, Maiana AIS, OpenPlotter, OpenCPN, O-charts, Victron stuff (Their accessories are all overpriced. Their solar charge controllers are worth the extra cost due to high quality of hardware and software.). People might be interested to track down any other random bit of info you might need too. Post your shopping list and get free advice. Other things I noticed: - Are you sure you want to mount the fuse box to the door? Cable routing will be easier if you mount it to the inside of the box. - Are you sure you want to leave all that carpet in the cabinet? Might not be so good for moisture or heat. Suggest closed cell foam for the exterior walls and none for the interior. - Supposedly the cool kids are using AvNav instead of OpenCPN now: open-boat-projects.org/en/avnav/ As I understand it: It's plotter software that runs as a webserver, so you can connect to it from any device on your boat (typically a tablet in the cockpit and the same RaspPi it is running on at the nav desk) and it "just works" instead of all the various things people have tried to do to get OpenCPN working in the cockpit that end up being hard to set up and/or more expensive than commercial chart plotter and/or fail prematurely.

Thanks this is all realy good advice. I will delete sone of the links as they will be explained in future videos. I am new to this and will be doing weekly update videos of my progress and I expect to get some things wrong and will be updating as I progress and showing what works and what fails. I will never be fully dependent on any of this as I have charts and a lot of working old marine grade equipment already installed that you can see in see my boat tour video. I am looking for a marine grade rugged android tablet for use at the helm if any one can recommend one they have used.

Another CS/ electronics geek here (have 4 Pi's within arm's reach, some arduinos etc and a couple of robotic arms). That ESP32 dial/ display looks like another project to start... That car radio will be using two 12v power inputs: One when it is powered, the other is constand/ stand by, it's easy to sort. Also, if your're running anything heavy on those buck converterters, I'd add heatsinks so they last longer.

WOW! You've just appeared at the right moment for me. I'm currently completing a 40ft catamaran that will be solar powered. In 6 weeks I will have been working on her for a year now, and hope to be at the end of the sanding, fairing and painting. Your electronics projects sound right up my street as I want to install an Open CPN system on my cat. I have an 'off-grid' solar system on my house in Manchester that uses an Orange Pi with Solar Assistant software to monitor and control it, so I have some basic understanding of control systems, but need help with identifying what hardware (tranducers, NMEA link boxes? etc) I need to make a working system, especially since it is a new build with no existing hardware. Anyway, good luck with the channel.

Keep me updated with your build. I will do some detailed videos on my electronics and systems. Did you build from off the shelf plans. I looked at this build kit schionningdesign.com/arrow-1201/ it is a very fast lightweight catamaran. I would need help and a build shed so I looked at second hand boats and bought Seahorse.

@@Tom-seahorse Hi, I took over this project last Nov (2023) after the original builder sadly died in late 2018. Nothing had been done since then, although the shell of the cat was finished (apart from the back of the saloon). I have been documenting the build and will release the videos once the cat is on the water. I read somewhere that building a 40ft cat from scratch for one person is a five to seven year project and I agree with that. This cat has already had the input of 'one man' for four and a half years. I should add this is a power catamaran, originally designed with two 60HP (or bigger) outboard engines. I have had two 15kW @ 48V electric outboards made by an Austrian company called Aquamot. They are supposedly the equivalent of a 38HP petrol outboard. The cat has a 6kW solar array (2 x 3kW) and 90kWh of LiPO4 batteries (2 x 45kWh). I also will carry two 2.5kWh petrol inverters and have two x 250L petrol tanks. I don't know if you follow 'Sailing Elektra' channel? It will be similar to what he has, minus any sails. Happy renovating.

Hi Tom , how good to see Sea Horse is alive and well . I sailed on her at the Southampton boat show in 97 and afterwards proceeded to place an order for a Solaris 32. There were 13 people on board and it sailed as if there were 2 .I still have mine after sailing around the south coast and France then in 2006 sailed her to Greece , where we live . It is a much loved boat and I have made several modifications . A strong and capable boat , she took care of us across Biscay in an F 8/9 .

Good to hear you still have her. Which rig do you have the conventional or carbo spar.

@@Tom-seahorse I had the 36 Sunstar rig fitted from new , this is the taller double spreader rig , with all Dyform rigging . I was really interested in the Aerorig as I had sailed on another cat with it , a Hirondelle 26 and David ,the builder , amused us by sailing it backwards along the quay at the boatshow ! as the larger rig was fitted it was natural to lengthen the boat so I added 750mm to the sterns which gave a swim platform and lifted the bottom step clear of the water, which as yours does , gets slimy green and slippery . I have a lot of things I can tell you about the 23 years of ownership .
