she is very talented. I started the book without taking it seriously, just a silly romance, right? But no, it is a very strong series, great intrigue, gory battles, epic characters. Laurent is my favorite, after all, it is always the bad boy that makes your heart go a little bit faster.

Great commentary! I really enjoy your sex scenes as they're never gratuitous or out of character and are very satisfying and show the emotional progression of the characters. And we see why here because you've put so much thought into how you craft them. I find it funny how someone criticized "no kidding" as anachronistic when this is fantasy. I'm not a gay man so I don't really know how the top/bottom dynamic works and if it usually stays the same in a relationship or you take turns?? lol. I did always thought of Damen as more dominant in the relationship and it made sense to me that he was on top, but you're right, Damen is more dominant physically, but intellectually Laurent is more dominant. And the oil lolol. I just assumed Laurent came prepared like he's prepared with everything else. In some ways these sex scenes are heartbreaking because Laurent was used to being used for sex and serving his uncles, but he was never made love to until Damen. I'd have to disagree that Damen is still perfect for Laurent; he was what he needed to learn to trust again and open himself to someone. But like Laurent said, when someone has been molded that young, it takes time for that to be undone. I wish you would do more of these commentaries! I think I've watched all the interviews I could find of you on KZbin, and I'd love to hear a commentary on the Fortaine tent scene right after Charcy. It was just so shocking and heart-wrenching to read and I'd love to learn more about the craft that went on behind the scenes.

Great interview! So what is the spoiler with Jokaste's future? I don't think that was in the short stories... And I don't feel too badly about Erasmus because Damen and Laurent got him and the other slaves out of a worse situation into a less bad one. So hopefully they're well treated in Patras and Torveld is still smitten with him. And I think it'd be out of character for Laurent to reveal his past with the regent. He's intensely private and guarded. It's not his nature to reveal any real or perceived weakness. And it's also logical that Damen never guessed at it. Like you said, it's dramatic irony where the readers have more of an omniscient POV. It was broadly hinted at since book 1, but Damen does not have that knowledge. I still want to know when Laurent fell in love though :P please tell us!

Oh LORD what I wouldn’t give to read all your authors notes you made while writing these books. I’m sure there are hundreds upon hundreds because of how attentive to detail you were in this scene. These two characters have completely taken hold of me and I think about them so much in my daily life.. about how different songs or phrases or clothes or people relate to them. I love hearing your thoughts on how scenes could’ve went because it shows why another version would’ve failed even if it would’ve been more emotional or hot or heart-wrenching.. I love these books and thank you for writing them

The question about the regent's taste for children having started before or after Laurent is so stupid that it disgusts me. I do not know if you still get the notices from this site, but I want to tell you I love your books. I have found only one minor error: that is in book 1 chapter 5 you state that the king of Vere was killed before Auguste (and in a few other sections of the other books), but in book 3 in the last chapter you state that it was the death of Auguste that caused the king to remove his helm and the archer-assassin then killed him. This story is very beautiful and I would hope that you have approached studios (like Logos) about making this a short series. This could easily be a two-four year project. Your writing also shows that two men in love does not have to be carnal; it can be sensual and erotic without graphic. I have listed to the trilogy in just one day, and have relistened to it 4 times and partially 3 or more times in the last week.I have a little OCD and by listening I do catch incongruities. I hope you expand on this love story, as I wrote to one of your fans I can see five or more major story lines developing from this series.

I think Laurent realized his feelings for Damen the day of the games.. when he was wrestling.. and also when he got drunk... And i understand why Damen cant see the relationship between Laurent and the Regent .. although ive seen it almost from the beginning. Damen was innocent of things that dark.. he didn't even saw the betrayal of his brother. And you can see on the way he views Laurent that he just cant imagine anyone having that much power over him.
