I have such an affection for the UHF channels of the 70s and 80s! Quirky, unexpected programming, limited but creative production values, and local commercials! We had a channel 56 in LA, KDOC. That was the channel of late-night dance parties, regional pro wrestling, bizarro hosts like Wally George!

I like the one about the army dude who gets radiation from a bomb test and grows a hundred feet and his girlfriend has to leave him. What was the name of that movie ?

Hypnotic music...like a 40 year time machine to the past. Lived in East Providence, RI in the late 70s, very early 80s. That music just brings back the whole mood of Saturdays as a kid.

You know, growing up in the Boston area in the 70's was GREAT ... get up at 8 to watch Bugs Bunny cartoons for 2 hours, then Candlepin Bowling with Don Gillis, then Creature Double Feature after that. Then ... after that, watch Wide World of Sports (on Channel 5 / ABC). Sunday mornings were all about Captain Bob, Davey and Goliath, and the Three Stooges. Just fantastic memories ...

Did they change the music later? I watched in RI and it doesn't sound familiar.

Saturdays in RI as a kid. Cartoons, Creature Double Feature, then 5PM Mass. Sporadic outside activity interspersed in there somewhere.

"Creature Double Feature" on Channel 56: It's where I discovered so many of my favourite Godzilla & Toho Studios movies. And Gamera, Daimajin & Daiei Studios movies. The Toho universe including: Godzilla; Minya/Minilla (NO don't call him that hannabarberra travesty); Megalon; Gigan, King Ghidorah, Mecha-Godzilla, Hedorah The Smog Monster, etc! (And some USA giant monster movies...Them! (giant ants); giant Tarantula; "Village of the Giants" (giant teenagers); Amazing Collosal Man & War of the Colossal Beast (kinda a giant school janitor). Channel 56! (Channel 38 played great Hollywood movies in the evenings, on "The Movie Loft". )

Wow. This takes me back. I remember having to adjust the rabbit ears to get a semi-watchable image. Fueled my love of Godzilla that is still in me today.

Question, there was another opening to this program where there is someone jumping out of a vat of wax. Does anyone know what movie that scene is from? Thanx.

My grandparents lived in Newton and whenever I'd visit in the 70s and 80s, my cousins and I would be glued to 56 and 38 all day. Then we'd get kicked out so our brains wouldn't rot. Didn't work... Anyone remember the "Inch by inch, step by step, slowly we turned, 3 Stooges Marathon"?

And Uncle Dale (Dale Dorman) I grew up in Cambridge. Miss those times terribly. Also do you remember a little lion puppet that would always come on between commercials on 56 in the 70s? I guess maybe he was a mascot or something.

Whoever created the music for this opening montage is a genius. That has to be the most panic-inducing monster music I can think of. As an 8 year old watching this, I was completely entranced. This should be the music played at the end of the world.
