What an epic project! Well done so far. I now know what early car makers went through when Frenching in their headlights to the front wings.

I just HAVE to write this. If someone had described your concept and format, I'd have immediately declined participation. I accidently watched you fiddle with the top, enjoyed your irreverent humor, determination, and SKILLS, I'm now a subscriber and as ridiculous as a human as you are for doing so. I love it all.

I admire your persistence and patience. I have also been working on a project for 25 years but never came around to finishing it. You can say it is nearly finished.

Aaarrrhhh door hinges, I feel your pain, you need to think about it, then you'll know what to do to make it work, can't wait to see the next instalment with all the doors swinging. It's looking awesome Cheers Marty's projects 👍

Came here to say, look at suicide door hinges. The pivot point would be in behind the wing section and then the door opens out and overlaps the wing, they are really very simple and would have solved all your problems. You can buy them but literally they are a few bits of box and a bent strip of steel. All you doing there is just pushing the problem around, push it in one place and it pops out another sort of effort! But stick at it… although personally I’d just fit suicide hinges and be done.

Its your hinges , they need to be goose necks..curved so door swings out not straight into the panel..😊

Have you considered lambo style scissor doors? 😉

You need swing out hinges so the door clears all the leading edges. They're a little more intrusive to the cabin section but should improve things. Your car your choice though
@jasonsummerlin47574 күн бұрын
Like the idea of the hinges but I think they will get worn over time with him joints. But just my thoughts I would have to find some hinges of another car and change the mounting point behind the panel . I just saying after 30years of paint and body work & doing suicide doors .

Those rod-end hinges are never gonna work. You will need a huge gap in order for the door to open and clear the A post. Your hinge should be in a "U" shape so the door moves outward as it opens.
@ig88bountyhounter5 күн бұрын
As always, kudos for the work you have put in. I loved the shape you had given to the door at the front top, pity it has given you so many issues, but yeah, the door rotation envelope is tough especially on deeper internal hinges like yours. It's redundant at this point but have you considered a proper goose neck hinge with the pivot points just below the skin of the hood? I don't know if you have the space for it and it would be even more work, but should you ever feel like doing something similar again...
@jacqeusmouton40055 күн бұрын
Nice work, but the hinge design itself will always cause the door to not open fully. Try U shaped hinges that pivot as close as possible to the outer skin of the A-post. Had this exact same problem with a '32 Ford roadster replica.

How about having the door sliding into the A post

Looks great! I've started to watch your progress and it's interesting to see how you work and are not afraid to change plans to get things to work correctly, but still want to make the end result look stylish. The next thing you know, you'll think the trunk/boot of the car is too flat and doesn't follow the lines of the curvy front end and fenders.
@JosephGoins-m1y5 күн бұрын
Sorry to leave another comment but all it was was the hinge design if you made a hinge that when it opened out it slid out so it's like a two-way hinge so when it opened it slid out further and accommodating the Gap and when you went to shut it it slides in and then shuts

i dont think by passing tried and proven build methods is the answer although i do admire your determination, but then i think you are in this for the journey rather than the end result, i hate to say ... this project will never be finished 😐

Been watching you fight the doors and hinges for the last episodes and besides it getting slightly comicle your wasting a lot of time and material. IMHO you should make "question mark" hinges. Go and have a look at the bonnet hinges of an old Mini and scale them to your own car.
@cliffroberts1815 күн бұрын
I do think your over thinking it just a simple hinge like a boot hinge will swing the door out and away from the A post would be the way to go

Heck I'm late for this one. Great progress mate, I work in the car industry and obtaining constant, adjustable, cohernt panel gaps is possibly one of the hardest things to nail, to the point that some money is always set aside to rework the stamps for the door panels in case we didn't account for something while designing the doors, so kudos for the good job and don't worry, it looks great.
