I hiked up to the first shelter a couple months ago, took a few minutes at the overlook, and as i turned around to see where the trail went past the shelter caught a glimpse of a black bear about 200ft away as he turned to go back down the other side of the hill. Right where you were pointing towards mudlick trail. Decided that was enough for the day.
@MichaelShepherdJordan15 күн бұрын
Pretty awesome you got to see a black bear! I haven’t seen one yet in Missouri. Used to see them all the time growing up in Tennessee in the Smokys. Black bears are the more skiddish and gentle of our bear friends, as long as there are no cubs around haha

Hope you took the time while in Branson to see this waterfall. It about 15 minutes from where you were.
Great video! We are new to the area and will definitely be visiting this trail. The graffiti was a bit scary, if you’re gonna graffiti a cave please make the theme nature and not clowns! You don’t see many clowns in nature 🤔 and I’m glad! Keep up the great videos🙋🏼♀️
@MichaelShepherdJordanАй бұрын
Thank you! I appreciate you watching. I’ve found some pretty amazing trails all over Missouri in my exploring. I know you will too. The more I look at the graffiti the more I’m finding myself feeling compassion for them, particularly all the “it hurts.” Add the clowns and skulls and I feel like something was going on there. I hope it’s better for them.

Awesome trail. I hate that people spray painted that cave like a middle school Halloween art project but I guess it is what it is..
@MichaelShepherdJordanАй бұрын
It is a cool trail. The spray paint is certainly disappointing, but the more I look at and see all of the “It hurts” I’m finding myself feeling compassion for them. I hope whatever was going on in their lives is better now.

You might also try the hike from the Hwy E waterfall to the top of Black Mountain. It is the tallest climb in Missouri. From the St Francis River, to the top of the mountain, it is just under 1,000 feet in elevation. Watch a KZbin video or two to see what you’re in for. Pick a day after some decent rains.

I love Pickle Springs. My favorite part is the little box canyon towards the start of the trail. I've taken my family, my students, and my scout troop and they have all loved it. It is short, which is why we make a day of it by hiking the Pickle Creek trail at Hawn, the 2 trails at Hickory Canyon Conservation Area, and Pickle Springs all in the same day. All three are close to one another and offer different experiences.
@MichaelShepherdJordanАй бұрын
Walking through the canyon at the beginning was a great prelude to everything else to come. I totally agree!
@joependergrass4716Ай бұрын
Got a chance to hike Pickle Springs for the day on our way to hike GSMNP and the AP last July. Wanting to go back this fall/winter with less leaf cover so we can see more of the topography.

question; i’m thinking about taking 2 of my older gbabies camping mid May they’re 6 and 8 yrs old would u think this would be a safe and fun camping spot. i also LOVE ROCKHOUNDING! What is ur take on there as a good spot. ? if not could u give me some suggestions plz. ty bunches!!🐼 😁
@MichaelShepherdJordan2 ай бұрын
Hi! Thank you for watching. This is a beautiful trail and one that I think your gbabies could easily accomplish. There are several backcountry camp sites along the trail, which are part of the Ozark Trail. The first is by Rocky Falls itself, just across the creek, and the second is a half mile down the trail at the second Rocky Creek crossing. They are noted on my AllTrails map here (www.michaelshepherdjordan.com/hiking-missouri/hiking-rocky-falls-shut-ins-to-klepzig-mill-in-missouri). Rock hounding isn't my forte so I'm not the best authority on that, but this trail offers a waterfall and 2 shut-ins so I'm sure you will come across some interesting rocks. Happy trails!

Have you hiked the Rock Ledges Trails at Fleming Park? Which trail do you prefer, Upper or Lower?
@JohnBinMO2 ай бұрын
I live in Lee's Summit, and I've hiked both of these trails. I prefer Lower Rock Ledges in the spring and summer when there's too much foliage to get good views of the lake from Upper Rock Ledges. Both are good, though! I hope you were able to check out Burr Oak Woods in nearby Blue Springs! Or the Blue Springs Lake Shoreline Trail!

Jace that's awesome! I was climbing in Jackson falls 25 years ago or so and I don't remember if it was Eric Ulner but it was one of the guys who put up a lot of the routes said that most of the ratings included the top out. Doesn't look practical here. Nice job man but technically we call that a pink point. I'm just jealous that's probably a little bit harder than anything I ever climbed. Climb on!
