Why Bonds? Money market has higher gains without the down side.

Mini retirement. I like that. Currently going through my own version of that where I pursue some side passions/hobbies and seek to monetize them.

My portfolio is 20% International.. My international allocation includes: AVDE, AVEM, and AVDV. You didn’t mention that the dividends are quite lucrative on many international funds. I like the added diversity and the value tilt. I am 63.

This is a really basic question. If a REIT offers 5.8% return and pays it monthly, how much money would I get each month on a $1000 investment ( I would do more but that will make it easy). How do I calculate interest earnings?

$1,000*.058 = $58. $58/12 months = 4.83/month

@@JarradMorrow That is what I thought but I was hoping I was wrong about how to calculate that.

I’m new to all this so I have a question what is the point of the high deductible health insurance plan then why is that not covering medical expenses? because it’s just a regular health insurance plan and the HSA is like something extra that you’re investing money and because you know insurance plans don’t always cover everything I don’t know. Am I getting that right? I don’t really understand that.

Thank you thank you... My company just announced that it was forcing us into a black rock life path paycheck fund. No. Thank you. I didn't know what to do, I appreciate your knowledge.

The IRS is potentially or even likely to audit HSA activity in a tax return beyond the 3 year statute of limitations?

Sticking to a plan is so hard for me. I started out with the 3 fund portfolio then switched to the “new” 3 fund portfolio. Now I’m doing just the 2 fund portfolio (no bonds). I come to KZbin to watch videos to learn but then get distracted by new investing strategies. I need to stop doing this.

I've heard a suggestion that states you should segregate the pension into investment money and spending money. The theory goes that if you have a section of the fund in safer assets and that covers you for about 5 years you simply draw that down and top it up if the stocks part does well. If not just wait for stocks to recover. 5 years is considered sensible as the markets nearly always recover within 5 years so you let one part ride the waves (and rise on average) while living off the other less volatile part. Just remember to top up the safe part when the stocks part rises.

I'm new to investing and am dollar-cost averaging on a monthly basis into various growth, dividend and broad-based ETFs, but also some tech sector ETFs, too, such as SMH, AIQ, etc. I'm wondering if, at least while I'm building up my portfolio, I should invest more into the higher growth areas (I'm particularly high on SMH) before they go too high? Basically, my reasoning is SMH and QQQM, for example, are likely to outperform the S&P 500 and the various Dividend ETFS like SCHD, so I'm thinking to buy as much of the growth now and then can jump into the slower growing assets in a couple years. Thoughts?

I said not to take on more risk than you can personally handle. This is going to be different for everyone.
