How many stitches would in need to crochet this hat for an 8 year old in Yummy Fluffy wool

I like to crochet a hat but hand made hats are not that warm like market hats. I think market hats have thicker weaved pattern. What care should be taken while crocheting a winter cap to make it fit better and feel warmer? Please guide
