*_Dungarees_* are what we called denim jeans: Lee's, Levi's, Carhartt, Wrangler, etc. Back in the 80's we would _never_ call Designer jeans "dungarees" though. Sergio Valente, Sasson, Gloria Vanderbilt, Jordache, were ALL Designer JEANS. Dungarees were jeans we considered a little "rough around the edges" less refined.
