This is a political battle that can't be won. The machine has gotten too big to be steered, and now has, and will continue to do what they want to do. You literally just watched it happen before your eyes. Yes, some are going to say well get out and become more active, or just vote for better solutions, but in the long run those ideas will just collapse the under the weight of the lobbies and bureaucrats. The better solution is to get together in your communities and form your own coalition and build what you see as the best alternative. There has never in the history of history itself, something that the government does better, than what the people could already do. Everything the government touches they fuck up.

Mr. Hoover, your logic is flawed and your argument to harvest more does is baseless. You have nothing but flimsy anecdotal evidence to support your claims of a skewed buck to doe ratio. I’m sure you and you buddies see lots of does, fawns, and yearling bucks, and few older bucks at your bait piles That’s because older bucks have guys like you patterned and pegged. If you’d get out of the blind, into the woods, and actually hunt in a natural situation, you’d find the buck to doe ratio is way different than what you see at the bait pile. And if you worked hard and smart enough, you’d likely get a chance at an older buck most every year. While you might have a loud voice, you are not the voice of the people. You do not represent the majority of U.P. deer hunters, and frankly, your vilification of the NRC is offensive and only makes you look foolish. The NRC did their job. Rather than crafting regulations based on the unfounded social concerns of a vocal few like you, they made decisions based upon science. Without any current population or sex ratio data available to support your proposed harvest of antlerless deer in the Lake Superior Basin, the only logical answer was to exercise restraint and continue the protection of that struggling herd. Please quit with your NRC smear campaign. We’re sorry you didn’t get your way and that you want to kill more stuff. If you really need the meat, please travel to and hunt areas of our state where we actually have an overabundance of deer. That way, you could be part of a real solution, rather than merely a whining agent of distrust.

The MI DNR is in a death spiral. They can’t brake the downward spin. They want to solve the problem without losing any revenue. They want to keep everyone happy so they don’t lose participation which is a reduction in revenue. The current administration running Michigan is anti gun anti hunting. Their budget is being cut because they don’t produce enough revenue. That forces them to find solutions without spending money and try to increase revenue. That pisses of hunters and causes a lack of participation which causes loss in revenue. Round and Round and Round the spiral goes. Maybe with a new Governor and administration that is fun and Hunting friendly this can at least stop the spin.

Facts. I never could fathom spending the money to something for me that I love to do which is being in the woods and finding deer. I still love doing it and I still can’t bring myself to buy a camera. I am 44 years old so I was hunting when the first 35 mm trail cam came out and at that age i couldn’t do it. About 6 years ago my sister in law bought me a regular trail cam because she just knew I was a hunter and that it was for hunting. I love that camera and I do use it but not for hunting but in my back yard in my ditch line by my apple trees just to sit down with my grandkids and look at all the different animals that pass through at night to eat the apples. I have had the same doe bring her babies to my Apple trees when it’s time. I get to see if she had one or two fawns that years and I have even seen her fawns grow up and bring their fawns. I also have a tight and tall racked 5 year old buck that comes up and get to see him in velvet every year from a one year old that I assume was brought there by momma years back. I even took my oldest two granddaughters 7&4 out and got permission to walk and find where the buck was moving and his different beds for the different seasons and we also found where the doe was birthing each year. I still don’t and won’t use cameras on any property I hunt mostly public and a few private spots because my passion is to go do the work to find the deer. To me it’s not work. The camera was awesome to have pictures to get my babies interested because it was all in the back yard and now I have two future outdoors girls and now hunters. Maybe they will just like the scouting part of it and I’m fine with that too. To me scouting is the regular season which is year round and hunting season is the playoffs and when you get that deer to come in range that’s the championship game and to win it the deer is on the ground and I used to always call my mom first and I have talked to her and she doesn’t mind I call her second now and I call my baby girls first now and of course there house is the first place I take the deer to so they can see it first as well

Great timing for this. The other day I was thinking about a couple things that I have to remember each hunt. 1) Cell phone case holds smells. We all carry them in with us. I use my clothes spray to wipe the case down before I leave the truck. 2) Your truck seats hold smells. When I put my head on the headrest, anything I use in my hair gets into the fabric. Also when I use sunscreen, that stays in there too. So I have seat covers and headrest covers that I put on before each hunt. 3) When I practice with my now, I don't employ scent control. Before I hunt, I use my scent free spray and wipe down the bow, arrows, release, arm guard etc...to be sure that my equipment doesn't hold those smells. If your bow case is padded, don't forget to spray it down after range time. 4) Whatever you carry in the truck bed transfers smell to the stand, sticks, backpack, boots.....I have a bed liner and a rubber pad in my bed that I have to spray out before the hunt. I spray the stands, straps, sticks, backpack etc.. with scent free spray when I take them out of the bed to walk in. 5) Camera equipment holds smells. I spray down my cams, tripod, cam arms etc before every hunt and store them in a bag. 6) For all my boots, when I get back from the hunt I take the insoles out of the boots and set them outside to air dry. I have a sent free odor elimination powder that I put in the boots. I spray the boots with scent elimination when I put them on at the property. Just some of the things that keep me up at night....😂 Great show!

I have a system of 100% scent control of what I can control. Many years ago, I set out to prove scent control would not work and to make it a quality fair test I went way overboard, and scent controlled everything that was going into the woods with me including me. The inside of my truck is 100% scent controlled. It's a very time consuming and costly process. But I discovered much to my surprise that it worked, and I've been doing it ever since. I repeatedly have mature bucks and does come in downwind of me calm as can be. I repeatedly have mature bucks and does walk the same trail I came in on calm as can be. During the hunt am I 100% scent free? I don't know but what I do know is that I am scent tolerable. All the places I bow hunt deer, in five different states every season, the deer are experiencing a certain amount of human odors. I believe the deer develop a sense of human odor tolerance equated to no danger to very dangerous. The places I bow hunt deer are not flat they're all hilly to mountainous terrain. Over the last 2o years I've compared the hourly wind prediction from the National Weather system to what the wind actually did during my hunts and the predictions are 50% incorrect. What that means is that at any time during my hunt there's a 50% chance the wind will be wrong. Most hunters would never do what I do for scent control because it is so obsessive, time consuming, and costly. I do it because I know the results it generates for me and after all these years it's a way of life for me. For the last 20 plus years I've bow hunted almost every day of the long archery season and have experienced a lot of deer encounters, so I do have a certain amount of experience with scent control.

@adamlewis_outdoor
@adamlewis_outdoor 10 күн бұрын
No since it is green once mixed, not blue and yellow..
@ThirdLawPair
@ThirdLawPair 10 күн бұрын
@@adamlewis_outdoor No, that's just how human vision makes it appear. Human eyes are incredibly sensitive to slight changes in color; so the pigments in fabric don't have to absorb very much light to make it look to us as a completely different color. The pigments don't shift the wavelength of the light like the brighteners do, they work by a phenomenon called subtractive color mixing. The blue pigments absorb a small amount light at the lower end of the spectrum, and the yellow pigments absorb a small amount of light at the upper and lower end of the spectrum. So, the remaining light as has a little more intensity in the upper-middle portion of the spectrum, which our eyes interpret as green. The yellow pigment doesn't absorb all of the blue light, otherwise it would appear very dark red to our eyes. Green is right next to blue in the visible light spectrum, so unless you are looking at a green laser that is pure green light, anything that appears green to your eyes has a lot of blue light in it. That's part of the reason most animals would get very little advantage by having green cones in their eyes; it's right next to blue on the spectrum. So, they get the most information in their environment by having cones at the two ends of the spectrum. Something that looks green to you is going to have about half of its light in the blue part of the spectrum, so it's going to look about half or three quarters as bright to a deer as something that looks blue to you. But they also see that blue light more that 20x brighter than you do, so that little bit of light absorption the in blue part of the spectrum that the yellow pigment provides wouldn't affect a deer's eyes nearly as much as a human's eyes.

Data is one factor. Feel or instincts play an important roll. These guys going into new areas and able to find hot sign and kill a mature buck that was bedded 100 yards away without bumping. Much of that can’t be explained well. Ask them. Who are you to tell them they are living up to their potential? Kinda arrogant to tell Paul Putera or Andy may he isn’t living up to his potential because they use instincts based on thousands of hours of experience.

So, it's all about your ego? What about respect for the animal? I understand the effort, but put that effort into sighting in for that distance. The heavy arrow loses less velocity and energy at long distances than lighter. Do some research. No disrespect but not everything is supposed to be easy.

Ego? The physics of momentum and energy may disagree with your assessment. It’s not about energy, that’s a bullet measurement that should be left out of arrow discussions.

@@adamlewis_outdoor go watch the Ranch Fairy video "650gr vs 450gr momentum at 60yds". That's ACTUAL testing and data. Excuse my mistake calling it "energy. Not trying to be argumentative. Just not understanding the logic of trying to take an animal at 60yds. The experience of the hunt should be enough, live to fight another day. Thank you for your reply.
