I find it odd that in the video where he is first approaching the deer, the arrow does not show much penetration and there is no blood at the point of entry. I have shot deer with a bow and there was always visible blood and penetration was always complete pass through or at least 2/3 -3/4 of the arrow into the deer. There was no blood anywhere on this deer. Even if a shallow lung hit, there would be blood around the nose and mouth. Nothing. It was as if the deer were killed some other way and the arrow manually stuck into the deer after the fact. A short time later in the vid, there is no arrow and no sign of the wound. Target arrow? A broadhead wound would definitely be visible. I do not believe this was a bow killed deer. An arrow with so much of it protruding from the deer would have been removed by vegetation as the deer ran off, or at least damaged/bent. Deer don't just fall over dead when hit with an arrow. They run like hell bleeding in and out until they lose consciousness and they crash through all kinds of vegetation in a panic in the process. That arrow is too pristine to have killed that deer. I also think there may have been some conspiracy with the scorers and whoever else because he knew all those guys. It should have been investigated by independent authorities, by warrant on suspicion of unlawful activity.

@@20byrd It appeared as though there was blood on the antlers later in the vid, but that was most likely from field dressing and rolling the deer over. I gotta say though, it didn't look as though the antlers were faked, although the rack looked too big for the deer. But I have seen a lot of Texas farmed bucks whose racks were disproportionate to the size of the deer. Could this deer also have been "farmed"? In the interview with his friend, his friend says the emotion could not have been faked as he walked up to the deer. I think it definitely could have been. Faking emotion is not that hard. @@20byrd That could partly be to the camera angle. With the deer's nose pulled up and pointed directly at the camera, it could have that effect. I noticed it on the standard photo of the controversial buck as well. A 2D photo of deer antlers is very difficult to show all the curves effectively. For a big buck, if shot during the autumn, you would expect the neck to have bulging muscles. A skinny necked buck with big antlers would certainly be suspect. Little bucks maybe, but not mature, dominant bucks. A doe, also does not have such a prominent throat patch or eye rings as does a buck.

I'm not sure but if this buck was truly a world record and he had obviously until this buck scored several for other hunters and himself would he decide to not do this buck even with some negativity???? 5-if I truly shot a world record, just from the financial sense of it I'd be all in about getting that thing in the books!!!! Nobody would have ever turned down that kind of income in my opinion, I don't care what kind of guy he was! My conclusion- Mitch was a heck of a hunter and he wanted to put a stamp on his life's passion by proving to the world he was the best and came up with this way to do it, not necessarily the right way and got caught on it? Maybe the previous bucks were manipulated and he thought he had it figured out until you present the public with a world record and the questions started.... he got caught and crawled in a hole....if it was legit and he earned it, he'd have did whatever folks wanted to prove himself right because it sounds like that was his personality!!!!

This is exactly what happened. He would have zero legal problems if the buck were officially #1 in BnC. Also he'd likely get up to a million dollars from Bass Pro for the authentic mount and be heralded a hero and expert in the hunting community. If he doesn't care about money fine but think of the possibilities that would open up for his family and legacy. It's gotta be BS.

He would have followed through with it all but set down when he was told to by Milo buck because he did not want no further digging in on that buck knowing this was not gonna be easy and they wanted so many things to prove it was legit and why would anyone sit down ?? The guy you interviewed I have seen several times and he is just that naive guy that I once was and while I want it to be real it’s not ! There are all kinds of red flags regarding Mitch's buck. There's just a lot of sign indicating that Mitch faked the rack. First of all, let's look at his background and behavior. Seems to me that the entire focus of this man's life is hunting and killing trophy bucks. He was a scorer and incredibly involved with Commemorative Bucks of Michigan. He has many deer entered in the record books in Michigan, yet he kills a world record buck and doesn't enter it or want the record. Also, take into account that in eighty years in the Travers City area, no one ever killed a buck any where close to that size. Furthermore, he could have put the matter to rest easily by having the rack x rayed, yet he refuses to do so. He goes into hiding after Milo Hanson threatens to sue him. If his buck was bigger, Hanson wouldn't have had a leg to stand on. And finally, at the end of the day, somehow the rack is burned up in a fire. That's awfully convenient, isn't it? If Mitch had killed the world record buck, it would have meant hundreds of thousands of dollars in his pocket. I think that when Mitch decided to fake his deer he had no idea of the firestorm he was creating. I think he believed that he was going to be able to get away with his lies. At the end of the day, every move that Mitch made showed evidence of deceit.

And another thing, nobody I know ever comes toward a deer from the front on the first approach. First, you're blood trailing, so naturally you're coming from behind. Second, when you spot the deer down, you don't just walk up to it. You stop and study it from a distance. Head up or down? Ears erect or drooping, eyes open or closed? Any movement at all, twitching, breathing, etc.? Legs under the body or outstretched to the side? Any hunter worth his salt checks all these things before slowly approaching from behind, with weapon at the ready (not a camera) and touches the deer's open eye before relaxing, satisfied that the deer is dead. Then the camera comes out. This footage was staged, IMHO.

I’ve had deer and elk facing the opposite way on the trail. When they die sometimes they’ll drop the hind legs and flop over backwards, resulting in them facing towards me as I’m coming in on the blood trail.

Not to mention, you have guys like thr Drurys and others managing the best land in the country and they can't get a deer to even sniff that size for typical. Way to many holes IMO. Not to mention the guy said that the clothing company was going to sue him so he told them to stand down. Have the deer officially scrutinized and measured like every other deer and then they will have nothing to sue you for if it's legit. I'm through 2 of 3 interviews and have yet to be convinced. Richard P. Smith said that Rompala was familiar with how you measure. The guy before him said he was an instructor for a bunch of years. Seems a little strange Mr Smith wouldn't throw that little bit of information out there when giving his perspective.

Didn't want the recognition but carrys around a.shed in a lock box, shows game camera pictures with a yard stick and on and on. I've always heard Mitch was offered a good sum of money to have the skull x-rayed. If it was real get it x-rayed , take the money and still disappear while giving the double birds . He does seminars and writes for magazines and other state record deer but didn't want to enter this one? I get huge deer can grow anywhere you least expect it if they live long enough but for me the thing just doesn't look natural all, the way the ears lay or drop , the way most of the rack looked like it has been rubbing on trees but not the brow tines or the 6 or so inches closest to the base, most bucks rub their bases to get thier scent in the tree. Plus I don't have any record animals but if there's ever a fire I'm grabbing my mounts, my guns, my dog and then my wife if theres time haha jk. Kinda.

Mitch doesn’t owe anyone any explanation…really good hunters don’t need a fan club nor do they need any notoriety…you see record books don’t develop wholesome reasons why some bowhunters choose to hunt for personal reasons that matter to them.. Most of the really good buck slayers have better than average woodsman-ship and understand buck personality behavior. Every 20 yrs or so the deer hunting industry has to slander the character of very skilled deer hunters. Remember Roger Rothar’s from Ohio …ya he didn’t fit in…he alone educated deer hunters while college biologist couldn’t figure out what he was talking about. The reality here is hunters don’t need or want record books to control the authenticity of what a hunter deems as a trophy. When you begin to understand most trophy hunters share their knowledge while mentoring others to become more skilled…the others just point there finger
