years ago, i spend 10 bucks for an 1 hour lesson. As an 1600+ player, it was really a wasted time. He just said analyze ur games and showed on of his games. never ever again i take a low price trainer.

I started playing consistently October 2023, made it to 800 in about 6 months, stayed stuck between 850-950 for about 6 months. Last night I finally made it to 1000 in rapid. My goal was to make it to 1000 in 1 year or less and I did it! I don’t really solve many puzzles, maybe I’ll try that lol

I first learned the rules of chess in 1972, played a handful of games, but then no one around me ever wanted to play, so I forgot about chess. If you noticed I said "1972." That was the year that the amazing (American) Bobby Fischer won the world championship, and that was a *HUGE* deal. Even people that had previously not cared about chess, begin playing. Chess club memberships exploded, and Bobby Fischer was instantly the idol of many young (especially) boys, including me. It was in the days of the 'Cold War,' and the Russians/Soviets had dominated chess for about a quarter of a century, so an American taking the title was like the worst slap-in-the-face the Ruskies could have received. The Russians had dismissed Fischer as a serious contender, and Fischer said that really irritated him. After Bobby Fischer won the world championship he didn't play an 'official' game of chess for 20 years. 😆 (Also, I'd recommend finding 'The Tonight Show' interview (Johnny Carson) with Bobby Fischer. Fischer's appearance was recorded in Nov. 1972, not long after he won the world title, and just before he basically went into hiding and eventually began his downward spiral. If you have a love for chess, it's an interview you'd wanna see of one of the best to ever play the game. Actually, it's good on historical and (then) current events value, too.) Now I'm 64, retired, and ran across a chess video a couple of weeks ago, and now I have a renewed interest, and even a sudden love/obsession for the game. I did (somehow) remember (almost) all the moves/rules, but I had never learned _'en passant,'_ and my memory was a little foggy on 'castling.' I downloaded probably 8-10 chess apps and begin playing against the computer, and I *SUCKED.* Even on the easiest settings on different apps I won *ONE* game out of my first, probably, 15 games. 😆 Finally, I changed my tactics - instead of just thinking I was ready to beat anyone, I started doing puzzles - a *LOT* of puzzles. I also started watching many tutorial videos, and just games of other players on like Chess com. The games that *weren't* 'Speed Chess' and those that were played by players not many years beyond my ability seemed to help the most. Although now the games of total beginners don't seem to do much for me. Sorry to write a book here, but my point is, take the advice in this video. If you noticed he made a big deal of pushing puzzles, and that was for a reason, obviously. Also, the 'Solo Chess' challenges on Chess com seem to help me a lot. They force you to not only visualize, plan and think ahead, but they also do it in a very interesting way. Ways that you really wouldn't encounter in a game. I don't even care about any rating at this point, and I may not even be to 800, but I already know my playing ability has increased by a good amount, and that's in well under *TWO WEEKS.* I believe if you _only_ play games you'll naturally get good......eventually, but if you do lots of puzzles, studying, and watching good tutorial videos, *while* you're playing games, you get much, much more from your invested time. Oh, it also seems to help me when I go back and analyze my games. Even if it's just stepping through the moves fairly quickly. Just last night I missed a checkmate and never knew it until I analyzed the game. I did eventually win the game, but missing a checkmate isn't really something you wanna be doing - EVER. *LOL* Thanks for the video. 👍
