Jack Smith could have this case go to trial almost immediately if he would simply drop all charges except the obstruction charge. The other charges bring in very complicated points of law that require much adjudication.

According to her opponent in the race for Fulton County DA (also a Democrat) , she used that money for travel rather than its intended programs. That accusation has not been made by the senate , simply the intent to audit in order to reconcile missing funds.

Very interesting! Law aside, I do have to ask about the math behind the repeated 'fiber lines are 5x faster than starlink' claim. I'd agree that geostationary networks are much slower than fiber, but they operate at ~10x the elevation of the startlink network. At it's most basic, the starlink satellite that you connect to just bounces your signal back down to the nearest ground station, where your data continues via fiber optic. These signals travel roughly 600 to 800 mi at the speed of light, so we are talking about and extra 4ms or so. A good coast to coast fiber optic signal delay is on the order of 30-40ms. Signals travel through our current fiberoptic lines at 2/3rds the speed of light due to the refractive index of the fibers. There is a new generation of hollow core fibers that skips this slowdown by sending the light through the hollow middle of the fibers, but they are a whole new beast that has not seen widescale much less undersea deployment. Starlink has been switching over to laser interconnects between their satellites. This changeover, combined with the fact that the signals are 50% faster than fiber, means that there are satellite routes that are faster than terrestrial paths. You don't have to take my word for it - high frequency traders are securing routes between major exchanges. I'd be shocked if starlink handles 1% as much data as the global fiber network. Customers have seen their download speeds almost drop in half as the network gains popularity. You are correct that it would not be a viable alternative to our current fiberoptic system, but the problem is bandwidth, not speed.

The whole topic behind this trial discussed in public is whether Trump is being tried when nobody else would be tried. I feel the heart of that matter is that nobody else would have done these acts, or if they did and got caught they would have plead out to a minor infraction and paid a fine. Trump never admits anything. That is both his strength and may be his downfall.
