Based on the clip placement, I'm going to assume this is for IWB and if you placed the clip on the other side, it could be OWB? It didnt dawn on me until I saw the clip being placed on the "non-sweat shield side. Great information and clear step by step instructions for pattern design and technique. THANK YOU!

Quick question I was wondering once you get your numbers and divide them by two now I have my stitch line dimensions. Can I divide those by two and go off of both sides of the firearm and achieve the same stitch line if not how do I center my firearm with those dimensions. I love your videos you explained everything really well I myself. I just started doing leather knife sheaths and I want to try my first holster. I have a 5 inch 1911 that I think would love really good in a leather inside the waistband holster and thank you for any feedback to my question

Be sure to add back in (1) thickness of your leather. I never stressed too much about taking multiple measurements with that method - I just measured the slide and used that result for the whole outline. But I don't use that method anymore - take a look at the following video - it's the method I use now and it works much better. kzbin.info/www/bejne/o5Wsinqghbdqn7M

Adam, Thank you for this video. I have watched it several times and it appears the clip is either on the wrong side for OWB carry or this is for an IWB carry. Am I correct or what am I missing? I'm not being critical, just trying to understand. Thank you

Thanks for watching! The customer requested IWB on this one. But it would be simple enough to flip the pattern pieces around to put the clip on the other side if you wanted an OWB set up.

Excellent video and narration. I made a couple of OWB leather holsters 15-20 years ago for my 4.25" 1911's. I just bought a 2011 style double stack and want to make an IWB holster for it. I'll need to pick up some SS hardware probably for the snaps, I only have brass that I used when making sheaths for my custom knives. Thanks for sharing your Craftsmanship and skills.

So when you measured the width of the slide at the beginning, did you then give half that width to the front piece of leather as well as the other half to to back piece?

Hey Adam, I found your channel while watching Road Agent and subscribed to your channel. I have also done this Black/Black style using my new laser for my logo..... I find it difficult to get rid of the burnt leather smell, even after using neetsfoot oil or wax. You mentioned cleaning with saddle soap. Would that be done after burning and staining? I have just started my journey with leather ideas and projects and look for to watching your videos.... Greg
@AdamsLeatherWorks
@AdamsLeatherWorks 3 ай бұрын
Hi Greg - My dog recently chewed up the cover I made in this video, so I had to make another one and engraved it the same way. The leather was pre-dyed, but I thoroughly cleaned it with saddle soap right after engraving, before assembly. If I were to dye natural leather, I'd do it after the cleaning step, or prior to engraving. The smell does eventually go away, but it takes a while. My new cover doesn't smell at all.

Hey Adam, thanks for the reply and sorry to hear about you having to remake it... but maybe you corrected the elastic line that you mentioned would bother you. Yep, I am using pre- dyed Black leather, I think I will give saddle soap a try this weekend while I catch up on your videos! Greg

Thanks for the video. I am just getting started with lasers, I bought my first one yesterday the xtool s1. I am a holster, belt and wallet builder, my question is can you just scan an existing pattern into the software and cut it to scale? I am struggling to find a video on this topic.
@AdamsLeatherWorks
@AdamsLeatherWorks 3 ай бұрын
Congrats on the new laser! I hope it works well for you. xTool makes some nice looking laser options. Regarding getting patterns into the software, that depends on the software you're using. I typically scan my hand drawn patterns and import them into Adobe Illustrator. My scanner scans at 300ppi, and Illustrator imports it to scale. Then I just trace the linework and break it apart into the individual pattern pieces. The capabilities of the laser manufacturer's software will vary from brand to brand, but I doubt most of them will directly convert a scanned (raster) graphic into a cuttable (vector) pattern. That may be a question for the xTool owners forum / message board.
