Hello Gord, I know the video is old but I have to give you a BIG thanks! Today I was turning some Butternut tea light holders and the jaws were very stiff to slide. I Googled Nova 2 chuck repair and your video came up, perfect timing. Your instructions were excellent, the chuck is working like new again! Hope to see you back in the shop again soon, Take care Wayne

It looks very advanced for a beginner though, when putting it together and setting it all up I was having anxiety to be honest because it seems like a lot of work plus the hoses and water looks like fun though! But can I ask a question? 🙋🏻‍♀️ How do you get products to test for a personal review? I know, no one ever wants to answer this question but I really would love to know

Many of the companies will include various items with the engravers to use to test them. In this case nothing was included so everything that I tested was what I already had in my shop. Thanks for watching, …..Gord

For different size openings, why not create multiple shims out of 1/4 inch plywood with smaller openings? The big one can be 1/2” if concerned about overall thickness. 3/4” is overkill. Make sure the bolt holes match the other plywood faces and glue some locator blocks to the shims so that they fit the larger hole. As long as the bolts and locator blocks match up, it doesn’t even matter if the holes in the shims are perfectly centered. Use the trim router again to shape the outside of the shims to match the larger disks.

@ericfriedman5237

A trim router would be a convenient alternative to the sanding. And one could simply tape the two pieces of ply together when making them and get the size right. A circle jig on the bandsaw or even table saw is nice. T nuts rather than wing nuts avoid the issue of bed contact. A block of hardwood shaped to a tenon is an alternative to mounting a.chuck.

Back to the idea of inserting a plug in the center - is there really a chance for cracking if the plug is only like 1/2” diameter?
@GordonRock1
@GordonRock1 Ай бұрын
I think the odds of it cracking would be much lower with a small plug than with a large plug. However, I have never tried that or if I have I just don’t remember it. I just really enjoy using the floating disc so that’s why I still do it. I guess the only way to know is to test it. Thanks for watching , …..Gord

Great idea and thanks for sharing your creativity! I realize the video is a few years old now but hoping I can get a question in. Is the faceplate hole centered on the front, back, or center of the blade? Im thinking of trying this with square blanks as well as logs as you did. Thanks again Gord!
@GordonRock1
@GordonRock1 2 ай бұрын
As you said, it’s a long time since this video was shot. However, if I remember correctly, the faceplate hole in the board is centred on the front of the bandsaw blade. The best way to be sure would be to do some test cuts and see what works best for you. Thanks for watching the video. I hope this helps! Take care, …..Gord

I think it’s the heat behind the window of a south facing window that gained the purple colour. My reason for saying this is if you get a heat gun and warm the purple heart up carefully, don’t burn it, it will turn purple. You can warm it so the wood is hot to the touch, leave it over night and hey-presto it’s more purple the following day. Try it on a scrap piece first.

I was wondering why I cannot find any woodturning with this wood and I am guessing this must be why. Wish I was into turning back when I was living in Red Deer. You know of any turning groups around Barrhead? (just 2-3 hrs north of Red deer). We have an abundance of Laurel Leaf Willow around the acreage and was surprised when cutting some at the darker grain with growing excitement that perhaps I've found some easy to get beautiful wood for turning... The tree itself is so brittle with branches giving way and breaking with the slightest pressure and that sure got me curious what it would be like to turn. Thanks for sharing your experience! I wonder if there is any stabilization or treatment to make it more ideal to turn (something that doesn't require a lot of products and work :p)

This video has helped me immensely as i took the head cover face seal out to clean and had left it to long beforei reassembled it so forgot how 😏😂.. when i reassembled it tho i wasnt totally convinced that the elastic loops were supposed to go inside of the anti rotating caps (marked L&R) so i let them loop around the outside of them to the front of the mask... this way they wont interfere with the workings or doing up the retaining bolt properly. Have a go and see if it helps/improves things and thanks so much for the video 😊🫡👍
