As Pegasus said, "If Autotune was a person, it would be Karen Carpenter. She had the most accurate voice I've ever analyzed, heard, and seen on the Computer in my whole life."

Karen had a very intimate voice along with being gorgeous and Richard’s stunning arrangements brought out the beauty of the music and Karen’s voice. They both were so gifted. ❤❤

Karen thought this song didn't suit her voice and refused to sing it at first. Once Richard arranged it and convinced Karen to get into the booth, parts of the lyrics were written on napkins and bits of paper. KAREN KNOCKED THIS SONG OUT IN ONE TAKE!!!

Hi PC, Another beautiful compilation of love and joy. This time I do know most of the reactors. Most of them have reacted to Tori and have been smitten. I still want Rob Squad but not yet. Angela can’t because of the focus of her channel but I keep her up to date in the P-Chat. Compared to the pitch corrected wonders of today (Thomas sisters I’m looking at you) Tori is a breath of fresh air. We didn’t have to worry about things like this listening to Karen. We just inherently knew, that was her voice and I’m melting. 1970 was my year, too. I was 14 and Close To You was everything. The truth is if this current generation doesn’t support Tori, that voice is going to have to be silenced to go back to school and get a real job and survive. Maybe get an engineering degree to be the audio engineer she wants to be. Or a teaching degree and become a music teacher. Imagine being in her class and she lets go and sings something. 😊 Maybe you can take a look at some reactions to her and see all the heads explode, jaws drop, tears rolling down cheeks. I haven seen anything like it since watching reactions to Carpenters. Or me in 1970, with Karen and I suspect you too. I’ll leave you her latest with James. He’s all the instruments this time. Very nice compilation and the people who had listened to Elvis prior to this song gave the best reactions in my opinion. Also, Elvis didn't come from a world of social media, but he did come from a world of media. The media hounded him and were horrible to him when he first came on the scene. He opened the door for all those who wanted to not only sing, but to also move while singing ( this was scandalous back then! ). Oh and no matter how one breaths, relaxes, or yawns, they will NEVER sound like Elvis. There was only one Elvis and his voice will live on forever, because of Elvis fans that give birth to Elvis fans who give birth to Elvis fans and so on and so on 😁☺

Fascinating to see all those young people's reaction to Elvis. One of the narrators said it all, Elvis was the greatest entertainer the world has ever seen, there will never be anyone like him again. Even though none of these people saw Elvis live in concert, they were still able to see how fabulous he was, his voice and his good looks. But if you didn't see him in concert, you would not be able to comprehend just how utterly fantastic he was. I saw him once in concert from front row seats. He was better looking than any photos could capture, his charisma was unreal. I couldn't take my eyes off him, I was mesmerised. And his voice was even better in person than his records or movies. He put his heart and soul into every song, just for his fans. The narrator was right about that - he truly loved his fans, and they loved him right back. We still do, always will.

PC you hit on the thing about Karen and this song. It was her least favorite song. I think it was because of the feud between Neil and Richard. Neil had an incident with RC and egos flared and what was a tour became a firing of Neil. I’m thinking this affected Karen and what was said was said. It is undeniably one of her best vocal performances and Emoress missed it. This wasn’t a “sparkle” song. I’m glad you have Sheray in the mix. I love watching her Carpenters journey. She is also one of the members of this group who I introduced to Tori. Look for Tee Spicer videos for Carpenters reactions. You’ll usually get a flood of emotions. Well done montage. Keep it up. I said it before if you want some intense reactions check out some from We’ve Only Just Begun by Tori Holub and James Wilkas. You will not be disappointed from an editing perspective. Nor will you be disappointed in her voice. No autotune or pitch correction, it all her, naturally. Joe

I’ve read that Karen felt the song dragged. Personally I think the range of the song and her reading of the lyric makes it one their best.

This was a Neil Sedaka tune. Neil was a songwriter in NYC with people like Carole King, had few hits of his own singing as well. In the early 1960's [he was an excellent classical pianist well]. But he career was destroyed with others when the Beatles showed up. Singer Elton John shows up in the early 1970's, discovers one of his idols is inactive, out of work. Elton made him write some songs, go into the studio and make an album, and gave him a new career with lots of hits. The Carpenters covered this one, and Neil was grateful, he became financially stable again and well regarded, went on tour and all. so before you totally credit the Carpenters for your tears, lookup Neil Sedaka, he deserves the credit for this incredible song. 😂...okay, now let that mascara run...

Hi PC, Another beautiful compilation of reactions. I recognize, Powerful, Angel D, Dani and Angela because all of them have been introduced to Tori Holub. I know many of the others just not yet with Tori. Angela can’t react to her as it doesn’t fit her format but I feed her new songs in the Patreon chat. The rest have reacted and 🤯 Angel D is my most recent. I too am an OG Carpenters fan. This album in 1970 was my first album I bought when I got a Sony music system that I knew wouldn’t destroy my vinyl collection. Savvy for a 14 year old. I’m also now a Tori fan. I did get to see her sing live in April at the Carpenters 55th Anniversary. She got to meet Richard. I didn’t have the nerve to go up to him. Argh. Most everyone else did. What I want you to know is Tori never uses pitch correction. Her voice is her voice, not mimicking but when she sings a Carpenters song she will use Karen’s inflections. Thing is when she sings anything in her lower register everyone says she’s singing like Karen. She isn’t. After a year I can easily tell the difference and it is magnificent. Her upper register is not Karen it leans more to Olivia. Oh to be cursed to sound similar to two of the most iconic female singers of all time. She and Jim just dropped their cover of Close To You. I linked it below. While there will never be another Karen. There will never be another Tori, either. Thankfully she’s 21 and hopefully will be singing for a good long time. This was a wonderful song and I grew up with Karen and Richard. If you don’t know there is now, after 40 years, another. There is hope but can she succeed in this Autotuned era? I for one hope so because she doesn’t use those technologies… Oh and there are over 70 reactions to the song below. Some of the same reactors and many new ones are freaking out. Welcome to Tori. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gGqYnZmAptRsjLssi=DKmKzH4Z0MO2J2US Edit: Oh and the newest one dropped last week, as I write this. Not to mention her other songs, Carpenters, others and originals. We’re trying to get the word out on this so it’s not at 1/2M … yet. We’ve only just begun to get new reactions to it. It is climbing at a brisk clip. Maybe folks here seeing this go give a look and like and subscribe. Encourage them to do more, For All We Know they may just make another song in the near future. 😊 Joe kzbin.info/www/bejne/r6XRlIqXmLp-gKcsi=L0yggQ_r6YxE9bdS . And it’s Karen Carpenter.

Joe's comments are well taken. Tori Holub is a 20-year-old vocalist, musician, and aspiring audio engineer, and with her collaborators, or on her own, she has been able to reincarnate the Carpenters. I grew up with the Carpenters in the 1970s and Tori recreates the sound in a way that nobody else has in all these years. It is special and note that she does not use auto tune or pitch correction. She is as close to Karen Carpenter as you will get. And she also covers some other artists, along with some original songs. For any reactor looking for something special, this is a must!

I'm a retired music teacher. Karen was a bad ass on the drums, don't kid yourself, there are plenty of examples on you tube. She considered herself a drummer first and vocalist 2nd. They shoved her out front after awhile, got another drummer for the band, so people could see her better, she hated it but never let her fans see her disappointment. So many add "she also played the drums", with good intentions of course, but she would have said it's the other way around...both Karen and Richard were super talented, intelligent musicians. Karen came across as the sweet girl next door, but sources have said she "talk like a truck driver" too, lol. I would have taken her both ways at once and still have a crush on her...she was definitely is charge of her staging and show with her brother, not just a order taker, she was a perfectionist. So sad anorexia and a heart attack killed her so young. When I heard the news on the car radio, I had to pull over and cry.
