Dont get me wrong tomahawks are really cool id say they look much cooler than the hatchets but im a hatchet guy and thats for good reason such as the facts that u can cut down thicker trees with a hatchet with less effort than u would with a tomahawk a sharp hatchet wiht a thin edge will do pretty much everything the tomahawk can do and better since it has more weight than the tomahawk u dont need to put in as much force for it to cut the same as a tomahawk however u do need to put in lots of effort for the tomahawk to cut into trees or saplings what a tomahawk will take 3 hits to cut a hatchet with thin sharp edge will take only 1 so to all those saying "but tomahawks were historically used for the majority of human time" Thats because people at the time were very poor in terms of metal so they figured as long as they make a cutting edge and a small eye to do basic tasks there is no need to waste furthermore metal to make it heavier like a hatchet due to them having little metal to work with they would use the spare metal to make other tools and to the same people who say they were historically abused by humans i say why dont they still get abused more than the hatchets?why dont we see tomahawks being used as axes anymore or hatchets anymore?So in other words a tomahawk is just a better looking worse version of an axe and a hatchet thats really what it is with a straight up honest logical opinion no bs

@@Dav624 good discussion frankly I don't have a tomahawk ( so how would I know? ) I have 2 hatchets ( ok for survival ) used brother's axe ( heavy full size ) but have seen the tomahawk used in India a lot by everyday people that venture into nearby woods to gather firewood for home it is very popular ( makes sense medium size easy to carry good reach good for protection against animals does basic cutting and even used as weapon in human conflict. ...deadly ) easy to craft maintain so let"s say one is more suitable in one situation they all do the basic job you could use hatchet also for self-defence ( less reach )

@@rajibjoshi9647 the less reach can easily be fixed with a larger handle after all you can give a tomahawk a hatchet handle length too so the reach isn't really a factor when comparing these two but yeah the tomahawk heads are much easier and cheaper to produce than hatchet heads although the problem with tomahawks is just that they can do everything a hatchet can do for just more effort because they lack weight so u will have to put extra strength to them to cut the same way a axehead will cut I never had a tomahawk before but my grandpa had a small little tomahawk smaller than my hatchet and I only have a single hatchet wich I purchased for 10 bucks it's one of those cheap stuff with plastic handles and a very thick edge of course I had to modify the edge and after making it thinner sharper it works perfectly for me I can now carve wood with it like a knife I can also split logs with it although it's a mystery steel it hasn't lost its edge or sharpness and I have a year without sharpening it after using it for almost everyday in the summer for fun bushcraft projects with wood I kinda gotten really attached with this hatchet although it's cheap it's really nice and for the price I got it for Its really performing like high quality one I'm not a fan of plastic handles but it's sturdy it's waterproof and I don't really have much vibration going to my hand from it since it's also rubberized along the end
