Great stuff, I’m only a few minutes in and you set the hook. I’m 67, two years ago I sold my beautiful log cabin in the snowy mountains, bought a sailboat and a sprinter van, started sailing/living in Ventura Marina for the past year and a half. The sailing life is everything I’ve been dreaming of, then cancer hit. My wife is a willing participant in my quest but got stage 4 cancer six months back, now she can’t sail, so the boat maintenance continues and the thoughts of a tiny farm are overwhelming me, us. So we are listing the boat instead of sailing to Costa Rica with our three buddy boats. They began the passage last month, we stayed behind after one year of preparation, that day was difficult to say the least.On the bright side we now have the skills and have done lots of coastal sailing. All I can say is If you have the sailing dream, seize the opportunity and go!

Pass the rope through the second point then invert the rope, its easier to then un-loop the reversal as you just follow the main part of the rope... You'll have to watch it with the sound off... My bilge is not as deep as yours. I stuff multiple super shammies in to collect residual water. I'll use the shop vac. I'm looking for a product that can be sprayed on surfaces where it cleans itself then I'd rinse it down. Does mold attach to your fiberglass or is it growing on your lanyards?

I'd say the Cuban government and the people treated you as well as they could. You should be grateful for that, it's sad to hear about your boat. You're very brave to s a i l those Waters alone. You should have clipped your go bag to your life vest and had a lease going to the dog. But you came out alive you kept your dog and you have a story that could become a best-selling book. I hope you thanked the Cubans for their hospitality. They treated you much better than they would have treated a Cuban to washed up on the beach in the Florida Keys. Embargo and the sanctions against Cuba should be ended they are our closest neighbor, and only the people of Cuba suffer for American stubbornness. Americans are a pathetic bunch. Particularly the politicians who keep these hostilities in flames

I can't stand when people constantly interrupt other people talking by saying Yep, uh-huh.
@SailorEricP26 күн бұрын
It's a shame that you can't stand people because of particular conversational techniques. Some people find it an encouragement to continue speaking when being acknowledged in the conversation. But I do understand that it detracted from the video experience, so thanks for pointing that out. I will work on my interview skills.
@johnnybill441625 күн бұрын
@@SailorEricP it is not a sign of encouragement. when you do that you are interrupting people and letting them know that you want to talk. if someone is explaining something and you interrupt with your yeps then you are letting them know that you understand and they don't need to explain further. It is extremely rude.

@@SailorEricP buying an appropriately sized anchor for your boat and sailing conditions isn't an over-simplification, it's basic seamanship. She dragged anchor at least twice and required rescue. What other lesson should we glean from that? Don't worry about safety because someone out there will save you? That's a terrible takeaway.

Thank you for the clip. Brings back memories. I’ve sailed on Perception in 20 foot waves and 55mph winds outside of Charlevoix. No, it wasn’t smart, but she is the most confidence inspiring vessel I’ve ever sailed on. And fast too. It was difficult seeing her go. But new dreams are a good thing and Hudson Bay sounds like a place where she could shine. If only that giant Genoa didn’t put such a steering load on the helm, even reefed. It was a precondition for the Chicago-Mack race (which she won). For a longer trip, the smaller jib and stays’l might make for a more balanced helm. Take care

Thoughts on OXO
@SailorEricPАй бұрын
Thanks for the question. I'm just offering my own opinion here. Assuming '0X' would represent a half wrap cleat hitch as described in the video, '0X0' adds a full wrap after the hitch is locked. I think that last wrap would add a little friction to the cleat and take some excess line off of the dock, but that last wrap would not have as much load bearing qualities as would '00X'. The last wrap in 0X0 might also lead to some extra line chaffing and the possibility of being jammed in the throat by load coming from the first wrap (which would result in difficulty undoing the hitch on occasion). My own bias would be 00X over 0X0. Good luck with Seductress!

Thanks for the comment. Dragging anchor in high wind can be very difficult to anticipate or defend against. Many Sailors lose a lot of sleep over the concern, and sometimes have unfortunate adventures. See kzbin.info/www/bejne/rqjYY4ifqJh1faMsi=qTDkW9KmPuuSUI7C. Channel: Breaking Waves - Episode: We Lost Our Boat which tries to capture the experience. I agree that her doing this in a 22' is especially impressive and I hope she shares another story with me about how she brought Rosebud from Florida to the Virgin Islands, navigating out into the Atlantic.
